Used to be a fuelling stop off for Empire flying boats. As far south as Hannibal reached. Ferries, inhabited islands, stunning views.

This was our 2nd trip to Lake Trasimeno and we thoroughly enjoyed it. So many little lakeside restaurants and bars to enjoy a glass of prosecco or delicious meal. This time we took the ferry to Isola Magiore and found it to be lovely. Be...More

The lake is our favorite destination as a base for exploring the area. The whole Umbria and Toscana are easy to reach with a car and we can enjoy the lovely surrounding every evening, taking a walk along the lake and having an excellent meal...More

On the recommendation of our hotel manager we drove to castigilione de lago and took a ferry across to Isola Maggiore for lunch. The ferries operate frequently and cost €16.90 for the return journey which take about 30 minutes each way. Lovely viewsin all directions.

We enjoyed a lovely day sailing on the lake. After about an hour we embarked on Issla Maggiore and toured the town. There was a wedding going on so it was great to see the way the town celebrated. We also walked to the statue...More

Went for a day trip, water murky and mosquitoes everywhere we walked. Huge clouds of them in the sky. So bad we left after a couple of hours as it was impossible to relax and enjoy the lake.

We are staying in Umbria and spent today at Passignano del Trasimeno, a beautiful lakeside village with fantastic views over the lake. There were several excellent small restaurants, Sottovente highly recommended, and the trip by boat to Isola Maggiore is well worth it.

The lake Trasimeno is just wonderful (mostly on the summer or spring) but you can go there anytime. Stay at Castiglione del Lago, a cozy "paese" with a beautiful view.

Quiet, peaceful, close to nature. A boat trip to one of the islands for example Isola Maggiore is fantastic! You have possibilities for trekking, sailing, eating ice cream or having lunch outside.

A short and disappointing visit to Castiglione and Lake Trasimeno resulted in a quick dash to Montepulciano for supper instead. Wouldn't recommend the former.

It's definitely worth it - especially with kids - and you might find yourself going there several times. Start with Castiglione del Lago on the western side of the lake. Skip the central town and drive along the lakefront... More
