It is clear that the fountain was needed in the main square of Siena. The latter was dragged here, bottino - underground aqueduct, which lasted 10 years. Let's not forget that the old Siena is on a hill. The fountain opened in 1346. It was...More

The fountain is in the Palazzo del Campo, and is pleasant enough, without being exceptional. It was sculpted by Jacopo della Quercia but here there are copies of the original sculptures (the originals are in the Santa Maria della Scala museum).

It's large, it's a fountain, it's rebuilt, and it sits in the Piazzo Il Campo of Siena. That's about it.

You are already in the Campo so make sure that you walk over to the fountain and look at the bas reliefs that are carved into the marble. It's a quick stop so make sure you stop!

This fountain is located in at the "top" center of the piazza and is very lovely. Be sure to walk over to see it when you are there. The detail is very nice and in good shape and it is somewhat larger than I expected.

It's easy to miss this fountain when walking around the edges of the Campo. Walk into the center and you'll see it and can appreciate the beauty.

It’s a small fountain located in the Piazza del Campo, one of the attractions to take in whilst in the square.

Having seen an exhibit in one of the museums showing the history of the Fonte Gaia we just had to go up close to it in the Piazza. It was also noticeably cooler there in the heat of the Tuscan August sun!
