We saw the towers from miles away, an enchanting hilltop village beaconing us to draw nearer. And we were glad we did! Finding parking is the first chore when you arrive but once you do, it's time to wander the narrow, ancient streets and wind...More

The towers of this town are the major feature that seperates it from other Italian towns. To see them up close adds to the magic of San Gimignano.

The village of San Gimignamo houses 14 towers of an original 72. Interesting history associated with the towers indicates that the towers were used as a refuge from invaders-nobleman would escape up the tower burning stairs behind them so the intruders were unable to reach...More

One of several landmarks in this medieval town. You walk into the town and walk into the past-long, long ago and well preserved. Still amazing to me and hard to wrap my head around it being so old. It's charming and has great views, small...More

I'm not entirely sure this is the same bell tower I climbed... I climbed about 400 steps and there was a bell at the top... Someone on here said over 1000 steps, and that is just not true (or I am mistaken!) Nice climb, not...More

Before our tour guide told us about San Gimignano I had never heard of it. As you approach the town you can capture outstanding photos of the town up on the hill. Once you walk thru the main gate you enter into the past. Of...More

If you visit the town you must climb the tower. Fantastic vantage point to survey the rolling hills around. The stairway is modern and steel, easy to climb.
