Overview
More
It is called the Leaning Tower or the Tower of Pisa but actually it was never used for defending the city; it is part of the religious complex in the Duomo Square and acts as its bell tower. It played an active role in both human and divine timekeeping with its seven bells – one for each musical note – the largest of which, cast in 1655, weighs a full three and a half tonnes! It is known throughout the world for the beauty of its architecture, for its extraordinary tilt, which makes it an authentic miracle of statics, and for the fact that it stands in the universally renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, of which it is certainly the prize jewel. And this is why it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

If you visit the tower from the main piazza it is impressive, but doesn’t look too much to lean! If you head further round towards the back of the tower is truly is worth seeing! Head there early or late in the evening if you...More

It is truly a bizarre building. Not only does it look unique and outrageous but it is actually a very beautiful building. Book to climb it, and you have the weirdest sensation where you feel as if you are drunk as you walk up the...More

Worth a trip from Florence just to see the tower. It is 5 degrees off the vertical and you have to climb a steep windy staircase to get to the top. Note that you need to book a time slot and pay an additional EUR15...More

The tower should need no introduction - its leaning over 5 degrees and looks funny. Great piece of architecture or a complete failure - up to you to decide as you climb the steps up to the top of the tower. It gives a nice...More

Lots of people previously commented that the tower wasn't worth the effort...... I thought it was great to see - the area wasn't busy, you could get around and get as many photo's as you wanted. It's a stunning piece of architecture, with some interesting...More

We saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa as part of an all day tour through Tuscany. This is the way to do it! Beyond the tower, there’s not much more to see. If you are in Italy, you have to add it to your “must...More

It's worth stopping at the Leaning Tower if you're passing by Pisa, as I did, however it isn't worth spending a whole day in the city. Don't forget to take the classic tourist picture while you're there, you know the one. :)

Not sure about professional photographers, didn’t see any. Would be slightly hesitant allowing a stranger take photos in this area
