The church is today not any more in service. Underground you can see the previous churches, most probably 5 layers. It is a very good example how to preserve former values.

While I agree with other reviewers that the interior of this church isn't much to write home about, I will strongly suggest you take the tour of the five centuries of ruins UNDER the church. Think of it as a bonus to what you'll experience...More

Italians really know this subject. As we can see the same configuration in Florence that is Santa Maria del Fiore over the previous Santa Reparata Church, St.Giovanni Church over the Santa Reparata ruins and the older time ruins. You should visit this area and you...More

A visit to this old church is good for the archaeology and the history of Lucca. We were lucky enough to do a 2-in-1 seeing the church and attending a Puccini recital. The performance acoustics are wonderful as are the very early Roam architectural structures.

We had not planned a visit here but as our admission ticket to Cathedral included admission here we had a quick look . Great for archaeology lovers

We rented an apartment juxtaposed to this church, deconsecrated for years, this year. The square is quiet and its nightly concert of Puccini does not mar that. This is my favorite area of Lucca but the church now charges for interior visits. It is not...More

Loved the accessibility of the excavations and the chance to see the complexity of the site. Also possible to climb the tower for great views

The walkways through history beneath the church were fascinating, and the combined ticket with the cathedral and bell tower was very reasonably priced.

Beautiful church built atop ancient Roman site. Has an archeological area below the church to view the Roman ruins. Great view of the city from atop the tower, however it's not an easy climb.

It's a small church when compared to others but I really enjoyed climbing the bell tower and exploring the ruins underneath the church. Well worth visiting

We stayed in San Luca Palace and we didn't need to look for a parking place as they've free one. Have a nice trip.

I believe the guide told us there were remains in the crypt, but I believe their are a couple of "tomba" don there. It is a walkway that you will be on and in some cases the steps are very steep. You will need to be very... More
