The church was rebuilt in the 11th century, but it was mentioned even in the 8th century. The name indicates that it was located at the site of the Roman forum. The facade, from the 13th century, is the most notable part of the building,...More

This beautiful building is built over the ancient Roman forum within the walls of Lucca. Steeped in history its ornately decorated facade is the highlight of many photo reels from Lucca. Inside it is not as decorated as the other churches / cathedrals in Lucca...More

I’ve never seen a church or cathedral with a top quite like this. Extremely high yet with no depth to it. Absolutely unmissable if you go to Lucca. Highly recommended

Wonderful old church with 8th century origins in the old Roman forum. Children will love asking if that is a real dead body at the back. Just say that is what happens to you if you smoke.
