It's one of the attractions In Lucca that's worth a visit for the panoramic view of the city and surrounds. It's a relatively easy climb to the top and the "garden" on the roof. It's kinda weird that there are four oak trees planted on the roof for the purpose of gaining additional height and prestige for the owner. It's worth a visit.

Excellent trip. Wonderful views of city. I enjoyed the trip though I’m scared of heights and there were many steps to the top but it was worth the climb

We loved our climb up to the top of Torre Guinigi we went in February so it was deserted we only saw people on our way back down. Its well worth the 5euro entry fee for the spectatular views. We counted all the other towers and saw all the places we had walked round that day already. The trees at the top are a fun addition - I imagine they are much needed shade if you go in the summer. The climb is steep and you have to be fairly fit and the top staircase is very narrow. It would be nice to have more information about the tower itself available while we were there but it didn't matter too much.

All around Lucca, there are impressive sights to see, no less Torre Guinigi. The tower among the buildings all crammed in together!

We enjoyed the tower. It offers excellent views from the top. We just turned up without booking which was no problem on a November Sunday morning. It was €5 each. There is not a lot of space at the top as expected so try and go when it is quiet. Would recommend while in Lucca.

I opted to visit the tower 'first thing' (i.e. soon after it opened at 10:00). I'm not a fan of heights so wanted to reduce the chance of having to squeeze past strangers on the staircase and have people bumping into me at the top whilst taking pictures.
Entry cost €5. The initial stairs are wide and shallow, and on each landing is a large board providing useful information about attractions elsewhere in the city. The stairs then become narrower as you ascend until you transfer onto a narrow metal staircase.
I found the ascent fine, although those who aren't in the best of health might struggle and want to stop occasionally for a rest. There is a seating area roughly half way up/before you start ascending the main metal staircase. The main metal staircase is quite tight although you could probably have a standing rest and let others squeeze past where the staircase turns by 90 degrees. The tightest bit is just before you emerge onto the roof of the tower. It's a 180 degree turn and bit of a squeeze if you are wearing a backpack, and you also need to mind your head!
I had the viewing platform to myself for the vast majority of the time, but when I was exploring the city on the ground and caught a glimpse of the tower later on in the day it looked quite busy. It didn't feel breezy on the ground but when I was up there there was a strong wind. You have an unobstructed 360 degree view of the city, which is amazing.
As someone who is scared of heights I'd say that the descent was more difficult for me as it involved a lot of looking down, but it was well worth it for the spectacular views.

Overpublicized and commercialized but the views are worth the walk. Stairs are wide for the first half, actually easy if you are in any kind of shape. I liked the bell tower better- more authentic.

The signs on the way up tell you about the different sites in the town, and then the last one shows you where they all are in the skyline you’re about to see. Try to go when it’s not crowded; there can be traffic jams on the narrow stairs, and as noted, the area at the top is rather small. If someone from your group doesn’t want to go up, have them take a photo of you from the ground while you’re in one of the windows on the second or third “story” of the climb.

We really enjoyed this, the climb was actually super easy. It was way more crowded and actually quite small at the top, that did surprise me. I loved looking at all the cool roof terraces, and it is always neat to see birds flying below where you are standing. The information along the walls as you are climbing the stairs is interesting as well, it is definitely worth the time to check this out.

I am seeking the old silk making area, and in particular the house of Regolo Turrettini, father of Francesco Turrittini Thank you for any hints how to find these

Paolo Guinigi who built the tower was himself a silk merchant so I imagine the trade was concentrated in the area and there are a few craftsmen still pursuing/demonstrating the trade in the city. Afraid I can't help you with the rest. Enjoy.
