We stayed here ten years ago and am perhaps planning in another Florence trip and wanted to see if La Limonaia was still availalbe as an option as it was a highlight of our Italy trip. The grounds were magnificent, the rooms cozy and full of character. Guilio was an excellent host, breakfasts were so abundant and fresh-the best ever, and THeN Guilio made frittatas to order on top! He also offered many optional 'experiences' most revolving around local food and farms. Each one was exceptional! E loved the sauce class in the cenruries old kitchen, with fresh pastas, so good! I was sceptical about the Saffron tour, how fun could that be? It was perfection!! I am hoping they are still hosts of this wonderful B & B. Definitely worth a stay high above the most beautiful city in Europe! Heavenly!!

We made our reservation about a week before we left for this amazing experience. Our drive was about 2 hours from where we were staying in Montalcino. We were making great time until we hit a stint of traffic and got stuck for a half hour. Giulio and Christina were gracious when I called to let him know we were late.

We arrived to the truffle house and listened to Giulio about the truffles over some white wine, pecorino with truffle honey and bread, then we went out with Eda to search for the truffles. Since it's been so rainy, there weren't as many truffles as there usually is, but Eda found two after our walk which was great.

We went back to the house, learned how to clean the truffles and then Giulio's partner Christina made us a fabulous meal. We started with white pizza with truffle, then a delicious bean soup and ended with ice cream topped with truffle honey and balsamic vinegar. I would certainly go back at another time of year to search for the white truffles with Giulio and Eda, I feel like we learned a lot and had a wonderful lunch!

In the beautiful hills of Tuscany, in a village called Bagno a Ripoli, south of Florence, we met with Giulio, Truffle Hunter, artist and life lover. Giulio clearly shares our passion for great food and even more for the truffle delicacy. He explained us with passion about the different types of truffles, the seasons, where to look for them, about his special bond with his dog Eda…
We went for an hour walk in the forest… even if Eda was a bit distracted by our presence, we found several bianchetti truffles.
Back at Giulio and Cristina’s place, with the most magnificent view over the hills and Florence, Giulio tought us how to clean the truffles and Cristina made some delicious food: pizza with truffle oil and bianchetti truffles and a special white bean soup, also with bianchetti topping. And for dessert: vanilla ice cream with some drops of 25 years old traditional aceto balsamico di Modena… another discovery.
This was an amazing and interesting experience. If you’re a foodie like me… just do it. You’ll definitely enjoy it!

We visited Guilio and his partner Christina for their truffle hunting and of course eating experience on our trip to Florence. I have nothing but exclamation marks to add to previous reviews. Guilio is a wonderful host and he offers a unique experience which I will always remember . To hear about the history of his own experience with truffle hunting and to watch him hunting truffles with his dog Edda in the forest behind their beautiful home was fascinating. On our return Christina had prepared a wonderful lunch for us which we ate after Guilio showed us how to prepare the truffles for eating. These were generously shaved over every course and we finished the meal with ice cream covered with truffles honey and shaved fresh truffles . Decadent!
Guile's truffle hunting tour is easy to organize ,great value and so memorable . I am so glad we did this.

I work for Lonely Planet and I need to shoot a feature story on truffle hunting in the Florence area and Giulio was well recommended. Did I ever find the right guy! Giulio and his dog Edda were fantastic. It's just a short drive from his beautiful "Truffle House" to the Tuscan hillside where he and Edda hunt for truffles.

It didn't take them long to find some and it made for a great short film. Giulio makes the perfect guide for anyone curious/passionate about Italian cuisine, art and of course everything truffle. He is also warm, charming and a joy to spend time with.

I can highly recommend Giulio's truffle hunt as a "must do" experience while in Tuscany/Florence. The meal (using the truffles found earlier) was amazing and Christina, the chef is equally charming and quite talented in the kitchen.

It was probably one of my favorite assignments I've ever done and my best day during my Italy trip. Look for Giulio and Edda's video on lonelyplanet.com in a few months!

This review is WAY overdue, and I feel bad about that because in my opinion La Limonaia should be rated number 1 over all of the other B&Bs in Tuscany. To the reviewer of "It's No Hilton/Marriott"'s credit he says that this was not for him - it is not a modern hotel. But don't confuse rustic with primitive. Primitive La Limonaia is not. In this case, rustic means a genuine period Tuscan villa (yes with modern and private bath and shower) with a beautiful courtyard out front, set on a hill overlooking its boundary wall from which capers grow in the limestone, with olive trees and the hills of Tuscany spread before you and the Florentine skyline in the distance. It is heaven. We have stayed there on numerous occasions and my wife and I only regret that we have not been able to be there recently. The hosts are kind, welcoming, attentive to detail, and a pleasure to be around. You can not meet more wonderful people than them anywhere else on the planet. Our only fear is that La Limonaia will become so overbooked that we will no longer be able to get a room there. "VIVE BENE, SPESSO L'AMORE, DI RISATA MOLTO" - that's La Limonaia.

There is no doubt this the place for an "authentic" experience. Unfortunately, I found out, I'm not that rustic. The hosts were warm and the breakfast delicious. Next time I'll visit for a tour, but stay in an American style hotel. I was ready to leave within the first hour. Sorry it wasn't for me.

After reading positive reviews about Giulio and his tours, we have ordered a full day tour with cheese and spice tastings. We have expected the usual: a nice view of Tuscany, and a bit of commercial site seeing. Oh boy, we were wrong. For the price of a standard tour at other places, we got a personal tour of Tuscany, with real people showing how they live on this beautiful land. Cheese was one of the best we ever tasted, and spices had the aromas one would expect form parfum sampling. But most amazing was Giulio, with his personal touch of showing small towns, butcher store, monastery with a view to kill and all this with a smile that made us feel welcome. So, if you ever in Florence, write to Giulio and get one of his tours. Guaranted, any tour you take after him will be a new standard you will compare it too.

This is a copy of the letter we sent to Giulio, our tour guide. We had such a great day! He was early picking us up. He did everything to make our day perfect. We highly recommend using his services for the best Italy has to offer!

Sending a big thank you to you for the truffle tour. It was one of the highlights of our trip. It was perfect in every way. Even the weather co-operated.
We enjoyed the drive with you thru beautiful Italy. Your knowledge and expertise provided us with a very enjoyable tour. Our time in the woods with the dogs was so much fun. The lunch and tour of Anghiari so memorable. (We're still full from the amazing meal.) All in all, you gave us the perfect day. Please give our thanks to everyone we met, especially Marino (the truffle hunter - not sure if the spelling is correct.) Most of all, many thanks to you for taking just the two of us on the tour. Truffle hunting has been on our list of things to do. You made it a perfect memory. We will definetely use your services again and recommend you to anyone travelling to Italy.
