Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

I had set up a tour through the theater itself with Claudia. She was so informative, funny, and personable. We got to see the underground/backstage workings of this historic building. My husband and I are both musicians and all her stories were fascinating.
We stood outside the theater for a long time afterwards and just couldn't figure out how an entire theater (it's not huge) could be hidden inside what little you can see from the street. If you didn't know better, you would never guess it's even there.
Setting up the tour required wiring Euros in advance to the theater itself, which completely flummoxed our credit union, but otherwise, I only have positive comments about the whole experience!

We visited the theatre to buy tickets for the opera at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale and whilst we were there asked if we could have a look inside as the foyer looked beautiful. Although we weren't allowed in on our own we were advised there was an English speaking tour at noon so we paid our 8 euros each and Claudia took us on a fascinating tour providing not only a history of this beautiful theatre but some really interesting history on Florence itself. An unexpected gem which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you very much for your review and your kind words. I'm glad you entered the theater.
Sharing the wonders contained in the theater is our satisfaction.

This charming theater takes one back to the days of Mozart. The decor, while a little worn, provides an opportunity to daydream ones way to great concerts by famous performers. I was there for a piano concert. The pianist was fantastic. Don’t miss a concert there!

I’m a frequent attendee at recitals here, & it’s always a comfortable pleasure being in such a lovely old House.
Last Saturday I rejoiced in listening to the famed pianist Ramin Bahrain deliver JSBach with consummate skill..these 4pm concert/ recitals a winning concept if followed by an aperitif ,then maybe dinner to follow.....?
The acoustics are good for instrumental performances (as indeed still so for the rare opera performances ) & prices reasonable even for the ‘best’ seats, up front!
There’s a very popular (& elegant) coffee shop within the house - with wines available.... & there’s cloaking available on the upper level.
Plenty of excellent eating /drinking establishments within easy walking distance nearby...a true Florentine gem!

This theatre looks like nothing from the inside but is gorgeous inside. The seating layout is perplexing..We had seats for the first level 2 E/D which turned out to be box 15...I still have no clue why! There a lots of lovely little boxes with free standing seats (which get moved about) and there is a certain amount of discretion regarding seating position within. We were lucky to be sharing with two other people and had a direct view of the stage. The performance was terrific and although our Italian is poor the familiarity with the story got us through. Staff here were friendly and I would recommend this place.

Be careful with the seats in the boxes. We had seats A & B in box 19 which sounds like they are situated in the front of the box, right? Not so - we sat behind chairs marked C & D. From that viewpoint one of you can see 3/4 of the stage, the other can see less. It makes more sense to sit in the seats in the front of the box regardless of which box it is. Attended the Nutcracker and the ballet was fine. Lovely evening out in Florence - really was fine but view could have been better.

The Teatro della Pergola is a lovely old building which houses an auditorium used for musical shows, performances and recitals. Located on Via della Pergola, it is great place to go enjoy some wonderful music!

We had the great pleasure of discovering and attending a performance of Beethoven sonatas -- on an original fortepiano -- the instrument for which the music was originally written. The Russian artist (Alexandra -- with a last name that cannot be written in English) was beautifully intense. I have a somewhat casual interest in classical music -- so this evening was not about the specific music. It was about being transported through time and imagining how this music has flowed through a range of instruments and audiences, from first to current performances. It was the perfect way to step away from the usual tourist attractions for what felt like an authentic Florentine evening.

Historic & nicely preserved --- as well as being functional/ comfortable (given the seats a tad narrow & the leg room limited!) whatever is on that you fancy one thing is constant..this Opera-style auditorium is a delight.
Next time I'm going to try one of the boxes & pretend I'm nobility!
You can book on-line & collect your tix same day of performance...but DO go early..there's often a big queue for tix collection..& waiting in-line could mean that you miss out on a good coffee or a nice cold prosecco next door in the Guido Giudi Café.

The web site did not make clear that this was a very old building, with basic facilities in the theatre auditorium and no air conditioning. The 17c boxes have chairs, rather than theatre seat and the view from the d and e seats is poor. As an historical venue, great, as a venue for a warm evening, less great.
