The description of the museum is a bit vague, I think, because they mostly refer to the stone work and whatnot, but really, as an artist, I loved studying and inspecting all the amazing pieces in this museum. It's a small museum but rich with...More

If you're looking for something truly Italian, off-the-beaten-path, or look beyond the typical traveler's must-see list, check out the Museum of Hard Rocks. Actually, it's about semi-precious stone, and it's both a museum and resource for restoration of Italy's vast number of intarsia and stone...More

This has limited general interest but is a stunningly beautiful presentation of pietra dura (hard stone) works from the Renaissance to the present. Well worth the time and effort

What an amazing space with so many neat, spectacular and mind-bobbling artistic feats under one roof. The artistic talen and sheer skill blew my mind and I found myself in deep admiration that such wonders could be created by hand... It boggles the mind.

This museum is one of my favorite places to visit when I am in Florence. Once you have been to it, the stone inlay on the altars in the Medici Chapel in San Lorenzo with the Michelangelo sculptures are even more amazing.

Looking for the Accademia we went around the wrong corner and found this little museum. The work is just astounding. How the marble could have been carved and fitted thus was a complete mystery until we found the benches and tools upstairs. Some of the...More
