Almost as high as you can go in Cortona so great views. About 15 minute walk from the town centre bot the views get better every few metres. Church is very nice and St Margaret takes pride of place above the alter. There is a...More

We’d parked down below the city of Cortona with no plan except to explore. After the endless steep climb from the main piazza in the midday sun (yes a crazy time at 30 degrees) the path opened up to the imposing Basilica di Santa Margherita....More

Beautiful church. So nice to see the beauty without crowds!!! Don’t miss the fortress up the hill a little further.

Beautiful church of Saint Margherita.. For those who would like to have some inner rest after a long climb from Cortona center...you can do this inside this Basilica. The views outside the church towards the Valley and trasimeno lake are stunning.

The view from outside is great. The inside has beautiful artwork as well. It is a bit of a climb if you park outside of the city, but the views in and around Cortona make the walk well worth it.

This Basilica sits atop Cortona and affords magnificent views of Tuscany and Umbria. Italian Catholics have a thing about reliquaries. Santa Margherita's desiccated body lies at the altar's base.
