After a very long and steep climb up a steep path, I finally made it to the top where I could see the Basilica of Santa Margherita. It was a nice looking exterior; but not worth the effort that I had just made. I hoped...More

The outside hides an elegant interior where sparkling color combinations can be found. It would be wrong to avoid this basilica because of its position on high altitude since it can be reached by car. Great views on the surroundings from the belvedere next to...More

We stopped here before leaving Cortona and enjoyed the serenity of the Basilica. It looks so plain on the outside, but the inside is quite beautiful. They view from the outside is also very pleasant.

We walked to this church from the town late Sunday afternoon. There was a service going on and it was packed. It’s a beautiful church and actually quite large. The walk up is stunning both in terms of the view over the valley and the...More

Found the place by accident and was probably one of the best accidents we had. Definitely a must see.

This Church actually houses Santa Margheritas body on the altar and you can see all of the photographs and notes that worshipers leave for this patron saint of Cortona. It was a beautiful structure and filled with history. Worth the climb up the hill to...More

Hardly anybody here, the Basilica is outside of the town and a wonderful view when you get here. Looks quite stark from the outside but as soon as you walk in you feel the spirituality of the sacred site. The Basilica was all by candle...More

Well worth visiting this beautiful basilica. In my opinion this is much more impressive than the Cortona Cathhedral. The art work is wonderful.

If you don't mind steep 14% grade climbs to see a terrific view of the valley surrounding Cortona, this is the place for you. The church itself is peaceful and beautiful. The hike is not for the faint at heart. Best of luck!!

This is a great experience and this church is full of history as well as having a great view over Cortona and the surrounding countryside.
