We took this on our first full day, so we were a bit jet lagged, but this kept our attention from start to finish. I was impressed with how friendly the chef and all the kitchen staff were. My hubby isn't a cook but still had a grand time! Cooking is a passion of mine, and I enjoyed learning professional tips and the stories behind each dish. We ate and drank so much... my advice is to take this class, but don't eat breakfast or plan any dinner because you will eat more than your fill.

I was fortunate to have a personal cooking experience with Paulo. This is a not to miss experience. I was exposed to the history of Sicilian cooking, watching and having a hands on experience. It was terrific.

Fantastic cooking class and meal!

I had a great experience learning to make Sicilian -style pasta alla Norma, eggplant Parmesan, salt baked fish, sardine fritters fried in tomato sauce, swordfish kebabs, and sardines baked in lemon leaves with master pastry chef Maurizio. He also served great antipasto with homemade bread, and cannoli stuffed with pastry cream. I enjoyed the cooking lesson, excellent meal, atmosphere, and peek into the organized workings of a busy Italian restaurant kitchen during dinner. We received a copy of the recipes and a souvenir apron. Thank you, Maurizio!

We spent a few weeks in Taormina. We took the pizza making class at the Porta Messina Resturant. It was such a great experience that we booked the arancino class and it did not disappoint. Chef Paolo was great. In fact the whole resturant staff was great. My wife and I learned a great deal about the art of making a good arancino. She made some previously but she learned the secrets to making the best arancino ball or cone. As for me.....even the ones I made tasted great. No small feat.
Both these classes were very relaxing. No rush to get you in and out. When we arrived they offered us a choice of beverage and told us whenever we were ready to let them know. Once class started Chef Paolo took his time and explained every detail. Once completed we sat down with a nice glass of wine and ate the finished product. They topped that off with some nice freshly made cannolis. We were welcome to stay as long as we liked. We ended up taking what we could not finish to enjoy later. The food at Porta Messina looked so good we decided to go back there for our last meal in Taormina.

First off I am an Orsini in Sicily from NY. You would think I would be a good Italian cook. Far from it. I do eat Italian food well and am great at doing dishes. I took this pizza and pasta class and even though I was not good at it I had a GREAT time and our chef Maurizio kept it fun. Being the off season and their first day open for the season it was only my wife and I. That made it easy for me to be the worse student in the class. I did learn how to make pasta and I made a pizza that I really liked and I am a pizza lover. Even my wife who I consider a wonderful cook picked up many pointers from Maurizio. Before we even began they brought us a meat and cheese tray, wine and water. After we were done making the pasta and pizza we sat down and enjoyed every bite. Plenty of wine to go with that followed by Mauizio's after dinner deserts.
Now we can go back to NY, hang our certificate, put on our Messina aprons and make meals for our neighbors. This class is a must if you are in Taormina.

Best part of our Sicilian vacation! Thank you Chef Mimmo for making our experience outstanding!
We met at the arch if you are concerned about finding the location Google map Don Diego gelato it’s right next to the arch.
Chef met my husband and I and took us to the market to buy the freshest of ingredients. The market is through an alley way most people would miss but it was a treat, we felt like locals and learned about the produce specific to Sicily in November.
Then a Mercedes van picked us up and whisked us to Chefs gorgeous restaurant on the water. There we met one other couple and began out cooking experience. Everything was super clean and the staff washed and placed items in dishes so we could prepare everything.
We made pesto pasta with tomatoes and almonds and pasta Norma. Both dishes are specific to Sicily and both were phenomenal. We actually made the pasta from scratch kneading dough while enjoying an amazing seaside view, it was like being in a movie! We learned how to create 7 types of pasta, one was easier than the next and Chef showed us the items needed to prepare this pasta are available on Amazon!
Next, we made swordfish stuffed and rolled on a bed of the freshest tomatoes and a veggie to complement the fish that included tomato sauce, veggies, eggplant raisins and capers. Both were delish!
While waiting for the sauce to cook chef prepared an outstanding charcuterie tray for us with yummy bread and yes lots of white wine! We got to enjoy the other two participants and the amazing seaside view!
This is the best deal on Trip Advisor, don’t hesitate book today! We travel extensively and this was our favorite activity yet! Thank you Chef! Come visit us in Ca we would love to cook for you make sure you come with a sense of humor 😂

This was in a real pizza restaurant with a wood oven. Learned the techniques of an experienced pizziaolo. There were some interesting tricks that aren't commonly known. Plus, a pasta lesson thrown in. It wasn't just "do this," but included a bit of the science of why.

I had a great experience at the Sicilian cooking class at Porta Messina!

The day started with a quick coffee while waiting for the rest of the group. Then, we went to the local market to buy some fresh food and fruit and vegetables.
Then we went back to the restaurant and started preparing the dishes, which included dry pasta, 3 types of fish, parmigiana, pasta sauce... we also visited the restaurant kitchen!
Of course, we finished the course eating what we prepared. The amount of food was so huge that we could not finish it. They offer to take away if you wish.
We also received the recipes book by mail and a nice participation diploma.

The staff is super warm, friendly and knowledgeable.
We were a relatively small group (8-10 persons) and this allowed a great interaction with all the chefs.

Sicilian food is super tasty and simple regarding the ingredients, so you should be able to find ingredients in your country and repeat the recipes.
Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful morning with the super friendly Paolo and Maurizio, learning to make pasta and pizza. A break in between for wine, fresh bread, cheese, salami and olives. Then at the end we ate our pizzas and the team had also turned our pasta into pasta alla Norma to give that a try too. I had no idea macaroni was supposed to look like that!
We had two teenagers with us and they enjoyed it too. I think it might end up being the highlight of our holiday!
It was lovely to socialise with the others in our class and get to know people from all over the world. Thank you Ristorante Pizzeria Porta Messina, and thank you trip advisor for helping us find such an amazing place.
I would definitely go back!
