- geirch1 contributionNice hike for slightly experienced people. If all you have ever walked on is nicely prepared paths with sturdy handrails, then maybe you should stay in the city. If you have any experience hiking in real mountains and prepare yourself accordingly this is no problem. Good shoes is a must. My children of six and eight years did this with big smiles on their faces and took a dip in the cold water at the bottom. We took it carefully going down, about 45 minutes, and about the same going up. A bit tired, sure, but if you're used to a little exercise this should be fine. I wouldn't recommend it in really hot weather. It's very beautiful and highly reccomendable. Is it weird that the gate is locked etc? Absolutely. Maybe it's just that Sicily will claim no responsibility if you break a leg.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 May 2023
- Peter TGreater London, United Kingdom6 contributionsOff the beaten track, beautiful swimming, beautiful gorge and fun for the kids! (Just be prepared to do a bit of a hike)Well worth the trip! Lovely pools and waterfalls, off the beaten track, so it’s good to see almost everyone being Italian. Our kids are 9 and 11 and managed the hike down in 30 minutes, 40 minutes on the way back up. They’re fairly used to climbing mountains but it really is fine if you’re relatively fit, plus you should wear nothing less than trainers (as it is rough under foot) and take a hat (there’s not much shade). We hiked down from the northern side, not where the cafe is (souther side) as that was what came up on googlemaps. Note the last mile to the main car park is a pretty rough/rocky dirt track, but fine if you take it slow. It didn’t seem to make a difference which side you went down from, as there were people hiking down from either side. Although we didn’t do the other side, so can’t vouch for how difficult the other path is, but you can see it and it looked very similar. There is no cafe or toilet on the northern side. There’s just an information booth, which was very friendly. Definitely worth a visit!Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 August 2023
- murrayldEsher, United Kingdom206 contributionsonce in a lifetimeHad a truly amazing trip to Cavegrande. Was worried about the walk but it was really no problem for 4 of us including a 7 & 11 yr old. Is essentially a 2k walk downhill (40mins) thru amazing scenery and then you come to the most idyllic setting of ravines and waterfalls. The water was absolutely gorgeous and some great jumps for the kids. The walk back up was slightly more arduous but took less than an hour and was more than worth it for the natural scenery. & it didn’t cost a penny, which is almost unheard of on holiday. Loved it.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 30 August 2023

Nice hike, great scenery and lovely swim. We took the North route which is quite doable if you have a reasonable condition. Large parking space however, the last 700 meter is a bumpy road (dirt track). Accessible with any normal car (not with a sports-car). Do bring proper shoes (trainers are ok). We saw various people om sandals or slippers which is irresponsible. Bring sufficient water also for the way-up. We shared our water with various people that run-out of water on our way-up. We went down around 16:00 stayed an hour and went up again in about 40 minutes walk. Prevent walking in the middle of the day in the summer. Nice and very rewarding hike. Lovely swim, bring water-shoes if you do not like stones at your feet.

A steep descent and climb with lovely fresh water pool in the middle.
Stunning views of the valley.
I wouldn’t underestimate the hike, imagine climbing cobbled stairs for 30 minutes.
Absolutely worth it when you get there!
Stunning pools to swim in, lovely to swim in fresh river water.
Officially the final stretch to the pools is closed due to some sort of damage in 2014, there is a sign warning you. But it is being completely ignored.

Wonderful landscape, a bit demanding walk, but it is worth to take effort to get and swim there. Beautiful pools, cold, refreshing water, especially during hot summer days is a pure pleasure...I expected to be crowded but it wasn't (Late July visit)

The hike was easy and suitable for everyone. There is no shadow so be sure to wear a hat. However, there are some tunnels to offer a break of shadow and cool temperature. The water is cool and very refreshing.

A difficult walk with terrific pools at the base of the gorge. We (couples in late 40s and early 50s with teen kids) did this walk mid morning on a hot day. Walk down took c 45 mins and the pools were amazing. Walk up took a bit more than an hour. Was tough in the heat. Definitely take water with you. Nice to get some cool drinks at the top from a small cafe. Worth it but you need a r decent level of fitness if it’s hot.

Potresti darmi qualche consiglio?

Sono dentro il ristorante all' inizio della discesa del sentiero "Scala Cruci". Sono a pagamento. Non mi risulta che ce ne siano all' inizio del sentiero "Prisa-Carrubella" o "Mastra Ronna".
