The building is Catalan and is not impressive, but the contents sure are! The "Triumph of Death" fresco an internationally known work is housed here. Also not to be missed by art lovers is the "Annunciation" work by the great Antonello da Messina in in...More

We spent two hours on a Saturday morning wandering through the Palazzo. The examples of medieval and Renaissance art and sculpture are displayed throughout the various salles. The Triumph of Death and the Virgin Annunciate are two of the more famous works, and rightfully so,...More

A modern, creative experience designed by the famous Italian architect Carlo Scarpa in the 50’s. Items are beautifully arranged and displayed. Perhaps the best museum we visited during our trip to Sicily. Each case, stand, and display case was sensitively designed - just seeing those...More

There is really one main reason to go here (besides the others I will list): the Virgin Annunciate by Antonello da Messina. One of a handful of his extant works, it's transfixing. The museum also has the incredible Triumph of Death, the enigmatic Bust of...More

The palazzo was constructed in 1490 and, in the 1950's was converted into an art museum for medieval art, which has stretched into the renaissance. Inevitably there is a focus on Sicilian artists with many splendid early works rescued from churches and there a few...More

The collection of museum that used to be the residence of Francesco Abatellis, port master of the Kingdom of Sicily, is rather rich. It contains 12th century wooden works, 14th-17th century works by foreign and italian artists and the remarkable fresco of the Triumph of...More

Probably the best known piece is Antonello's Virgin Annunciate, the delicate portrait of a very beautiful girl, but also the Triumph of Death, an awesome fresco taking up an entire wall. It is a large collection of mostly religious works. For me the most impressive...More
