Even though like most monuments in Catania it could do with a restoration the monument is spectacular. I particularly loved frequenting this area at different times of the day to see how the locals enjoyed their time in the main square

This area was a good visit. There is a market along the square, including a fish market with many vendors. The area was crowded with locals buying their supplies for meals, a diverse group of merchants. Only difficulty was with language, makes the experience even...More

This is a part of any walk in Catania. The square is wide and is at the end/beginning of walking up through to the main square.

As far as I could find out, the Palazzo degli Elefanti is somewhat of a town hall nowadays. The architecture is stunning although getting inside isn’t easy (we couldn’t take a look).

The piazza is amazing and has all the history you need in the town centre. Many shops, restaurants, and even a fish market. Why bother going anywhere else?

An elephant statue carved from Etnaic lava during Roman times carrying an Egyptian obelisk surmounted by Christian symbols. All sitting on a fountain with allegorical figures of local rivers. An icon of Catania.

The place has great atmosphere and so many stories about the Elephant.. still not sure which is true. legents are so many and so interesting, but you need to hear them from local people and the way the tell them :))
