Something of a memorable oddity like the Elephant and Castle (entirely different and irrelevant) and as always in Sicily steeped in history. The elephant is Roman, the obelisk is Egyptian (Cleopatra’s Needle, anyone?) and there are Christian symbols on the assembly so quite an agglomeration...More
An elephant statue carved from Etnaic lava during Roman times carrying an Egyptian obelisk surmounted by Christian symbols. All sitting on a fountain with allegorical figures of local rivers. An icon of Catania.
The place has great atmosphere and so many stories about the Elephant.. still not sure which is true. legents are so many and so interesting, but you need to hear them from local people and the way the tell them :))
