Beautiful altars
Jun 2021
This church, only a few feet from the Monastery of San Benedettini, was undergoing some renovation but most of the art was still on display.

There was no fee when we entered.

Beautiful church
Sep 2020
It is much more beautiful outside than inside, on my opinion. There is a small fee you can pay to access the interior.

Really impressive
Nov 2019
It is an astonishing piece of architecture in terms of both size, architectural solutions and emotional impact. It includes also a memorial of the fallen soldiers and not only. The entrance is free and a paid guided tour is available.

Worth seeking out

Went inside this church to find relief from the torrential rain outside. So glad we did! Very interesting "sundial" on the floor in front of the altar and beautiful war memorials at the back of the church (far left).

What an impressive Church
Sep 2019 • Friends
This church used to be part of the Monastery and it it’s heyday must have been spectacular- it was on the grand tour route.
It has 8 knaves!
As the monks lived more like princes in this monastery it has some unusual features - a mosaic of the signs of the zodiac in the floor.
I found it a very peaceful building and on a clear day you would have an amazing view over the town and up to Mount Etna.
There are some really moving war memorials in some of the side chapels.
It is free to go into the Church on the ground floor level.

Huge inside yet has a peaceful atmosphere
Oct 2019
We were not expecting the church next to the monastery to be so big but it is very spacious with high ceilings and wide open spaces between the numerous side alters. all of which have big and impressive paintings. The main central alter is beautiful. It free to enter but you can go up to the eaves for 3 euro per person. Recommended.

My favourite

I loved this church for its simplicity. Not as many art items and painting as others but so clean and simple. Large interior but church is empty which gives it a strange feeling. Next door to the monastery.

Very large church
Sep 2018 • Family
Huge church in the area where a lot of ancient buildings were sitting. Beyond that, nothing impressive, to be honest, in terms of decorations. There is possibility to take a tour for panoramic view at 3 euros.

Free to enter, weird to wander around
Sep 2018 • Couples
At least as big as the catholic cathedral on Piazza Duomo, the Chiesa di San Nicolo All’Arena is huge. There’s no charge to enter and wander around. Yet the entire church is empty, which gives it a rather unhomely feel to it.
The walls and ceilings look to have had some sort of restauration although some parts show a lack of work done.

Candle’s have bent out of shape or even totally fallen over due to warmth and time.

Beautifull to see, but not sure what is done with it nowadays.
