At least as big as the catholic cathedral on Piazza Duomo, the Chiesa di San Nicolo All’Arena is huge. There’s no charge to enter and wander around. Yet the entire church is empty, which gives it a rather unhomely feel to it. The walls and...More

We rather stumbled across this church and initially were going to walk on however my curiosity led me to cross the road to have a closer look. The external facade does not really give a visual clue it is a church. It is truly monumental...More

Very simple church not much to look at here nothing grand to it at all however it’s worth the 3 euros to climb the stairs and get great views over Catania one of the only places I think you can do.

One of the largest churches I have ever seen. The space is gorgeous and quiet. There is meridian on the floor. Entrance is free; it is possible to ascend the observation spot, which is charged.

This is simply a stunning church which is part of the monastery of the Benedictines and it's just stunning, really huge and very well preserved. A must-visit attraction.
