on a very hot day these gardens were a welcome sight .They are beautiful with lots of shady places to sit Amazing statues ,the garden is full of surprises well worth a visit before a well earned ice cream just across the road

Unless you are a swift walker it would be a long walk from the cruise ship terminal. I would take a local bus or a taxi. Yes, it is only a short walk from the Duomo. If you only have a short time in Catania then I would question whether you would need to waste time on the Garden. There are many more interesting things to see. However, if you are looking for a vantage point or just to get out of the hub bub of the town, then this would be a place to do so but you would need to climb all those steps.
