we arrived at 11am and were back before 1pm, we took the FUNICULAR+Jeep + guide combo. I know a lot of people complain it is expensive but unless you want to walk up, I would advise to do it. Worth the money.
This is a definite visit while in Sicily. We went with SAT on an organised tour which took out all the hassle of driving there and organising the tickets. The coach driver was extremely safe and the guide gave some info but not a vast...More
Visiting Mount Etna is a must if you are visiting Sicily.
It is not cheap if you use all the transport options (64 euros each)
However, you can walk quite a long way from the top of the chair lift which is 30 euros each.
This is a fascinating tour of a live volcano. You can drive yourself but we decided to take the half day tour. The information provided by the tour guide was extremely interesting and informative.
The coach drops you amongst the dozen or so tourist outlet...More
Paid €75 for the Mt Etna trek up to 2100m. At booking in centre you are able to hire warm coats and walking shoes for free but everyone quite rightly makes a charitable donation. We were taken in a 4x4 up to 1700m and were...More
Take an organised tour!
To be honest the walk is a little long and not my thing (men love it!!)
What was very lucky was that we were there during a very active period
It's totally safe but a guide is a must as you...More
The etna is definitely worth a visit but it’s quite expensive if you do a guides tour (85€). You can walk yourself freely until 2900 meters and see craters without going to the top which is most days clouded and you wont see a lot.
Drove up from Catania to where the cable car starts. It is a nice drive up but there is a lot of traffic, especially tour buses. Even for September the parking lot was fairly full and there were a lot of people overall. Was a...More

We couldn't afford the cable car as very expensive. We had a car for our week in Taormina so we're able to drive around the mountain and do various marked trails through different terrains and lava flows. If you are thinking of doing this I highly recommend buying a trail map before you go as the mountain covers a huge area. It is best to do some research online before you go and plan what you intend to do. Go as early in the day as possible as the top always seems to cloud over mid afternoon. We loved Etna and would love to go back and spend several more days exploring the hundreds of craters and flows. Enjoy!
