- Talia15 contributionsBest view of VeronaThis is by far the best view over Verona. Can get very crowded mid day and towards sunset. The stairs take about 10 minutes to walk up if you're in good shape and there are many cafes around the bottom. I went on a run early in the morning around 8-9 and this was the best time to go as there are no tourists then.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 5 April 2024
- JoannaBath, United Kingdom23 contributionsBeautiful views are well worth the short trip to the topNice walk up, and beautiful views of the city from the top. We certainly appreciated the parks along the route up/down, offering great places to pause and see the sights. There is a water fountain to refill water bottles, and trees to find shade behind at the top.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 August 2024

We took the steps to reach the top and enjoyed the views on the way up. Once at the top, there are quite a few different locations for viewing platforms. Fantastic views of Verona from all angles. There is also a small cafe at the top by the funicular station.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 September 2024

This is the fourth time I have been to Verona and every time I need to visit Piazzale Castel San Pietro.
There is now an option to take the funicular to the top but if you are able - take a slow walk up instead.
The views from the top are spectacular and the deep blue sky and the red italian roofs are picturesque!
You are able to look down on the city of Verona, river Adige and see all the towers and churches in the city. People come here for the view and you will not be disappointed!!

Take the new funicular up to the top for great views over the city. There is a good viewing area but imagine it gets crowded in the summer. A small cafe is good. The castle is closed just go up for the view over the river and the roman Bridge.

For a great view over the city it was fantastic. The funicular is cheap and easy. A small cafe is at the top and there are some seats and the wall to rest on to enjoy the view. We ate our picnic there. The castle was not open to visit.

This is where a lot of people go for a panoramic view of the city and its surrounds. We went via the funicular but the more cative can walk and I'm sure public transport must pass close by. There is bar up the top for those in need of refreshments

Do pay the measly 1 euro to go up and get the most amazing panoramic views of Verona. Definitely well worth the small journey on the funicular. However, keep in mind that this is located quite a distance from the train station, and taxis were non-existent on the day we were there.

The square of Castel San Pietro is one of the most romantic places in Verona. It can be reached via a historic staircase where you can observe characteristic views or with a panoramic funicular. Once up it is enchanting to admire Verona, its ancient bell towers, the Roman theater below, and listen to the sound of the waves of the Adige river that crosses it. Sitting on the walls in the evening and observing all the lights of the city is wonderful!

Here, right on top of St. Pietro Hill, you have a fantastic view over the brick-red roofs and towers of Verona. All framed by the Adige river. We took the funicular up because we had a pram with us but I would have liked to climb up the hill by foot instead since the footpath passes the ancient Roman theatre. Unfortunately, this was not possible due to practical reasons. This is an unmissable thing when visiting Verona.

Although there is nothing to see at the top of the castle (not open to the public) - from here you have a beautiful view of Verona. I actually saved myself the entrance fee and elevator for the Torre dei Lamberti...it probably doesn't get any better than this.
I deliberately skipped the funicular...the climb is still manageable. Two days earlier, when it was 37C, I would have paid the €2.
Halfway up the climb there is a small park that complements the view to the west.
If you are descending when it is starting to drizzle, please be careful: the marble or polished sandstone steps become slippery.
