We visited the synagogues in the Piedmont. Our base was Turin and we prayed at the synagogue there on Friday night and shabbat morning. The congregants were friendly. You do need to contact the synagogue in advance to gain entry.

With its typical four turrets and the superimposed middle East style domes it gives a flavour of Middle East to this central area of Torino. The access is usually forbidden to the visitors and only organized visits are permitted.the interior is simple and aristocratic

We could see this magnificent building in the distance but on arrival saw that it was heavily guarded by all sorts of military or police and hence could not stop and find out a little more about this stunning building.

Through some research I have learned that this synagogue is the main place of worship for the Jewish in Turin. Designed in Moorish style it opened in 1884, in WW2 it was unfortunately damaged and underwent restoration work in 1949. To get a rough idea of the size of the synagogue it can hold 1400 people.
