Lots of car park spaces although they are all situated on the outskirts of the picturesque little town of Orta. Simply follow the directions to the harbour which is approx 10 mins away. Try and get there for opening at 9.30 if possible in order...More

It’s a gorgeous little island, famous for the nun who have taken a vow of silence. There is a walk of silence with plaques around the island to encourage you to enjoy the peace. Pity the other tourists didn’t take to that, chatting loudly on...More

A peaceful place to visit. Go on the first ferry before it gets busy, and walk the way of silence - beautiful vistas and a stillness separate from the everyday world

We had a trip to Lake Orta one afternoon and visited this little Island where there is a thriving convent of Silent Order Nuns who do amazing restorative work to art and fabrics. There is a silent walk around the island and the pathways are...More

€4.50 for a return trip on one of the regular boats leaving the Piazza Motta in Orta San Giulio. A shortish, quiet stroll around the island, following the way of Silence, whilst you read the inspirational signs extolling the virtues of silence. We went on...More

It’s a 5 minutes trip to go there and you can go through the church and walk the “silence walk”, all in all maximum 40 minutes. Quick, beautiful and simple!

Beautiful peaceful visit. Would definitely recommend but you don’t need long to get round the whole island.

Boat takes you over from Orta San Gulio. There is one restaurant on the island, and you can walk the way of the Silence. Several alleys lead to the water with beautiful views. Good for 1 hour. Should you do it ? Yes definitely

There is a convenient covered pay parking at the entrance to the village of Orta. It is very convenient because there is little way to go on foot to get to the marina. However, I do not remember the cost of parking.

The boat goes to the island and back. I think there is another type of boat that does a longer trip around some of the lake.
