The Giulio Island is small but very charming. There is the lovely St. Giulio church with wonderful frescoes that is a must see. There is one cute shop run by one of two inhabitants on the island. Take the ferry over and enjoy.
San Giulio Island is extremely small, it takes around 10 minutes to walk around it, and it is only 5 minutes by boat from the town of Orta.
The island is home to an active Benedictine Monastery and you need to keep that in mind....More
A fascinating small island close to Orta, it is well worth the short trip via ferry or water taxi from Orta. Given its small size you may run the risk of being swamped by larger tour groups, however despite this it is a fascinating place...More
After spending some time in Orta, my wife and I jumped on a small boat to Isola San Giulio and I think it is a really nice place to visit. The island is small - you will need less than an hour to visit it...More
We took the public taxi boat over to the island. It took fifteen minutes from Pella where we were staying. We went into the church ( shorts forbidden) and walked around the island ( 15 mins max) and although there were some bars to sit...More
Getting the ferry from Orta costs around €4 and takes only a few minutes. Once there, there's one path to take you around the whole island, which takes perhaps half an hour in total. The basilica is worth visiting, as are the small paths and...More

Lots of car park spaces although they are all situated on the outskirts of the picturesque little town of Orta. Simply follow the directions to the harbour which is approx 10 mins away. Try and get there for opening at 9.30 if possible in order...More
It’s a gorgeous little island, famous for the nun who have taken a vow of silence. There is a walk of silence with plaques around the island to encourage you to enjoy the peace. Pity the other tourists didn’t take to that, chatting loudly on...More
There is a convenient covered pay parking at the entrance to the village of Orta. It is very convenient because there is little way to go on foot to get to the marina. However, I do not remember the cost of parking.
First thing, car parking is as you drive down to Orta, there are open air and multi storey pay car parks which are quite convenient. It is a short walk down to the town and you should enjoy that too, many interesting places... More

It should take you not more than 20 minutes to wander down there depending on how many shops you enter!
For the ferry it's quite obvious where the boats go from, as you come down to the main piazza which is on the foreshore there are boats moored at place, what I cannot tell you because I am not a walking talking timetable is what times they operate. I guess in December it will be a reduced service but no doubt you can amuse yourselves if you have to wait.
Hope you enjoy it and that the weather is kind to you.
