Grab an outdoor light lunch, a cold drink, or delicious gelato (my wife's favorite for this trip was purchased here) while looking at ducal palace, churches, and beautiful people.

This is one of the main squares in Mantova and, with its cafes and bars, provides a good place to stop for a drink or a bite. It's very close to the many of the major sites.

The Piazza delle Erbe lined to the north by facade of the Palazzo Broletto, to the east Palazzo della Ragione, and XV century Clock Tower.

Very crowded with restaurants, caffes and live music. A lot of action including small temporary markents and art presentations. Beautiful, well preserved buildings around a large square.

It is a lovely space between the Basilica and the clock tower but much is covered by scaffolding right now.

I had the fortuna to find an open market in this big square that was a forum in the roman period. the palace ducale is here.
