We felt the Basilica was stunning inside and preferred in fact to the nearby Duomo! Well worth a visit!

I often have trouble liking Baroque churches, finding them over elaborate, but this one is exceptionally beautiful. I don't know the period over which the interior was painted but it looks all of a piece. The dome is very impressive too.

Such a beautiful church! Very ornate interior and all of the paintings are stunning! It’s a pleasure to sit and look at all of the artwork and lovely structures. We enjoyed walking around the church, my only issue was I wanted more time!

I have visited a number of churches during this trip to Italy, and this is the most beautiful I have seen so far. There is construction going on everywhere in Mantova, but step inside these walls and the noise from outside fades and you are...More

An absolutely spectacular church with beautiful paintings. A huge space which felt calm and smelled of incense. Disappointed to find that the sample of Christ’s blood was not on display.

I've travelled all over Italy, and this is one of my top churches based on the extensive 3D artwork. You see some of this on the ceiling at the Vatican museum, and in some other churches, but this one has every column covered. It's wonderful.

Impressive renaissance/baroque cathedral perhaps more interesting architecturally than the nearby Duomo.

What is supposed to make this basilica unique is the fact that it holds 2 vases with (purportedly) the blood of Christ. But it's not a very impressive place altogether

Don't even start making yourself an opinion if you haven't crossed the doors and are inside. The outside can be very off-putting, as the church has been squeezed in between other constructions of doubt-able architecture tastes. Inside it's beautiful, peaceful and unlike most catholic churches...More

The extraordinary interior decoration of this cathedral makes it a worthwhile visit even if you think you're over looking inside churches on the continent...the trompe ceiling alone is worth a geek!
