Needs an effort but an insight to the region

There are no English labels - hence the two star rating.

Despite the above we enjoyed it and if your level of Italian reading is high I would commend it.

We were certainly well looked after. A gentleman escorted us to the lift, took us to the right floor, indicated the direction of travel and waited for us.

The first floor covers early developments in Dalmatia and Istria. There was a particularly good display on early farming methods. There is a photo of this but I am afraid it did not come out very well.

Escorted to the next floor we were able to appreciate the many old photographs. There was a thought provoking bit about the end of the Second World War. Trieste was originally occupied by Tito's Yugoslavian army before the area was partitioned between Tito and the Anglo American forces. Many refugees from communist Jugolslavia were wrongly branded as fascist sympathisers. In Piazza Della Borsa there is a large banner draped across a balcony reading "Free Territory of Trieste USA & UK COME BACK" so feelings run high even today.

Really interesting and free!

It's a museum about the Istrian peninsula, Fiume and Dalmacia and its italian heritage. Its really complete and totally free of charge (altough the information is fully in italian). If you are interested in history, its a MUST.

Un museu sobre la península d'Ístria, el Fiume i la Dalmàcia i el seu passat cultural italià. Molt complet i a més a més gratuït! (La informació però és només en italià, però força comprensible). Si t'interessa la historia de la zona, hi has d'anar.

Double check if it is really open before going.

The idea is great.Italian heritage in Istria must be well preserved.. The problem is that they don't respect times. Better to check if they are really opened before going.

Small free Museum

This well appointed museum chronicles the life in Istria before it became part of Yugoslavia after WW2.
A lot of the population was displaced to Italy.
All explanations are in Italian only.
