The Vecchia Pescheria is the site of the old fish market and is one of the most picturesque parts of Piazza Cavour. The building is a sheltered, open air market and designed to look like a loggia. The structure is open on all four sides supported by Romanesque arches. Stone benches sit longitudinally on either side for stall holders. At the corners of the building are statuettes of dolphins with water jets that used to be for cleaning fish. There were a few flower stalls on the day we visited, but most of the stalls were empty and excellent for photography.

Vechia Pescheria whose entrance is on the left-hand side of Piazza Cavour is one of the most picturesque and characteristic places in Rimini where women sold fish.In modern times this locale has become the hub of life for the city's youth with restaurants, wine bars, canteens and meeting places. It was erected by Rimini architect Giovan Francesco Buonamici in 1747.

Rimini is a maritime city, and its inhabitants love the sea. Rimini has always based part of its economy on the fish sector, and fishing has therefore been an important activity for collective nutrition. The structure of the fish market (Vecchia Pescheria) is designed to contain the commercial fervor of citizens, with all its typical nuances. Built in 1747 under the design of Giovana Francesco Buonamici, the old fish market (Vecchia Pescheria) forms a two-storey open gallery with three arches, inside is still in excellent condition there are two parallel rows of Istrian stone benches used to show/sell the fish and in every corner of the fountain building allowing cleaning. It is still known today as the piazza delle poveracce, a name used in the dialect to indicate the shells (mussels) , this place is still dear to the people of Rimini, a symbol of folklore and productivity.

This fish market, located in Piazza Cavour, was built in 1747 and is in the shape of a two-order loggia defined by 3 entry arches. Inside are long stone tables where goods were placed on display for sale. Today it is just a place to hang and chill.

Ot's not a fishmarket any more sadly but you can imagine what it would have been like as the old stone slabs where the fish would have been displayed are still there. Modern stalls (a plant seller) still use the space and it's surrounded by cafes and bars - well worth a look.

This old fish market is in axcellent condition and it's very fascinating.
Nowadays, they sell expecially flowers and plants and not anymore fish (probably for the smell of the fish).

This is a walkway with a difference. We were there on a Sunday and there we stalls selling beautiful flowers. It sells other things through the week. But the construction itself is inspiring - tall and stately - worth a look.
