Ravenna is the city of beautiful mosaics. In addition to this place, the 2 other major mosaic sites are the Basilica di San Vitale and the Mausoleum di Galia Placidia. All are beautiful and well worth a visit.

This underground museum shows stone floors (mosaic and patterned) from the 5th-6th centuries AD. It is a great addition to the many mosaic filled churches and baptistries in Ravenna.

According to our guide, this is the actual site of the ancient villa which was filled with mosaic rugs, the mosaics are in their actual place-some restored, some reproduced with originals on display on walls. It's definitely worth visiting if you are interested in mosaics.

You can walk on elevated gangways over the mosaics of which there are many splendid examples of 'carpet' mosaics from this ancient villa.

Display of lovely mosaic floors, in this fairly recent basement location in a church, Only 4 euro entry. Worthwhile, but it is chilly down there so take a jacket or jumper. Quite a small exhibit.

The "House of the Stone Carpets" is not included in the City Pass which covers the rest of Ravenna's tourist attractions. But this small site, rediscovered relatively recently, is definitely worth an extended visit. If you come here, you really have to spend the extra...More
