Entry is free and the pieces of ancient stone work are interesting but I couldn't find out much detail about the pieces and being able to read Latin would help. Still, its worth a stroll around before you head upstairs to the gallery.

This is a small, but free museum showcasing stone artefacts, from Roman grave steles to carved balcony from around Modena and the countryside. Well worth a look around if you go to any of the other museums housed in the same palazzo.

It's worth allowing a few hours for the whole museum. We took advantage of the free guided tour in English, and it was an excellent introduction to Roman sarcrcophagi, as well as teaching us much about Modena and its history. Thoroughly recommended.

When we visited the museum we were offered a free tour by the waiter of the coffeebar. He arranged a guided tour by the conservatrice of the museum for free, and it was great!!

We tried to visit the Galleria Estense at the Palazzo dei Musei of Modena. Due to an earthqiake several years ago the galleria was in restauration. At the entrance inside the building several roman sarcophages were exhibited. Then we learned that the Museo Lapidario Estense...More
