This is a very interesting and historical place to visit whilst in Bologna and would thoroughly recommend it. Not expensive to get in and suggest perhaps going when the weather is not as hot, as there is no air conditioning in here.

Although we found it somewhat difficult to find the library, it was well worth the search. We took a short ( free) guided tour, and enjoyed the library itself particularly interesting and beautiful.

The library itself is quite stunning in design. What is amazing is beneath the glass blocks of the floor is that you can see ruins. You can go downstairs and actually visit the ruins and there are plaques that explain what you are looking at....More

This is truly an impressive building. The library was exceptional and the dissection room was very interesting. Not to be missed in Bologna

a very impressive library, now a museum. The central great reading hall is flanked by smaller specialty libraries, with an overwhelming collection in all fields of bibliography, all in a dignified scholastic atmosphere.

A reason to visit Bologna - the oldest University has, naturally, the oldest library....... A very moving place.

What a fabulous place. The coats of arms from past students turned it into an art gallery. Free to get into and wander at leisure. Really enjoyed our visit.

I do not know whether there are tours: A friend took me there, showing the university of Bologna. For sure there you can find the secretary which can answer to your questions.

You need a guide. If you are able to prevail upon their kindness, you have a good shot.
