St Peter’s Basilica deserves such an impressive entrance. With the sweeping columns seemingly hugging the crowds drawn to this holy place in the Catholic Church. Central to the piazza is an Egyptian obelisk and a couple of fountains.

Being able to visit the Vatican was a dream come true. Being in St. Peters Square on a Wednesday and seeing the POPE made it even more meaningful. You are surrounded by statues and Saints in a size that is hard to comprehend. You have...More

The square itself is someplace you'll recognize seeing if you watch Papal addresses on TV, or it'll be a place you wait to get into the Sistine Chapel - it's not so much a destination as the center of things. As you face the Basilica,...More

After a superb tour of the Vatican and Sistine chapel I thought the Basillica was the last amazing sight until we stepped out into St Peter's Square which was an absolutely stunning and surreal experience

Walk and really take in and appreciate the architecture of the area. The exterior of St Peter’s Basilica is beautiful. The little shops and displays are interesting. There are lots of peddlers in the area, so be aware.

Very big and surrounded by wonderful architecture, the square is stunning and makes the queuing just bearable. The columns, statues and fountains all add to the overall effect, and while we were visiting there was a big sand sculpture of the nativity for Christmas.

My advice is expect Large crowds, It will be very Crowded , probably very hot, get there as early as possible in other words probably not a good day to visit from a tourist point of view.
