The area
Neighbourhood: Colonna
Frantic fashionistas, pedicured politicos, goal-oriented tourists, and on-the-go locals cross paths every day in Colonna, a delightful chaos in the very centre of the city. Even though it has some of the city’s loveliest sites—a 2nd century column, Belle Epoque shopping centre, and a magnificent Baroque parliament building—Colonna is not just another pretty face, but the cosmopolitan eye of Rome’s cultural storm. Colonna can safely say it has the best of Rome: museums, boutiques, window displays, restaurants, cafes, and people watching.

One of my favourite cinemas in Rome
Nov 2019
Nuovo Olimpia seems to specialise in creative art-house and independent films.
It is a lovely place to see a film. It is such a pleasure to see an old-style theater still around, too
It is small, old two-screen film house, the only movie theater in Rome where they show a large variety of films, both blockbusters and classics/foreign films in original language.
It is not fancy at all, there is no bar, not even a coffee machine placed somewhere, in a corner, but we really do like it, it's our favourite cinema in Rome for it's charm and the clear love of quality films the staff display.
So all in all, a good place to see a movie, especially those ones in original languages that you won't see in other cinemas.
It's a little old, maybe it's time for some update and refurbishment to go.

My favourite cinema in Rome
Feb 2019 • Friends
There are only two screens but they always have interesting movies in the original language. Old style cinema at the heart of Rome (they don't sell drinks or snacks) with almost no adverts. Staff might not be overfriendly but that's more a Roman thing I suppose..

See recent films in the original language at this movie theatre in central Rome!

This cinema has been around since I was a small child, I remember it from the '60's.
I first saw Disney's 'Sleeping Beauty' here! Of course it has been remodeled since and now shows 2 films simultaneously, it has 2 cinemas. For those of us who like to see films in the original version, it is one of the few movie theatres in the center of the city that does. Very centrally located. Many persons appreciate seeing films 'in lingua originale'! I don't mind that the theatres are not huge. And I have always enjoyed whatever I have come to see here. The price of the ticket is the same as any other cinema in the city. The films are also subtitled in Italian for those who might need a little help with the original language.

Good movie experience
May 2017 • Friends
After looking around for a cinema showing a film in english, this was a good option. There is no concessions stand, therefore you have to bring your own snacks. Managed to catch a Woody Allen classic, which made for a fun experience (having never watched one before). Simple theatre, seats were okay, good sound quality.
There is a snack shop around the corner from the theatre, as well as a late-night restaurant which was quite nice to go to after the movie.
The restaurant is very nicely decorated, with pictures from classic movies. Service was fast and friendly. The food and wine were great. Also nice that is open until 11.30pm

Art Cinema
Jan 2017 • Couples
This is a lovely, simple little cinema. They show films in original language (rare in Italy) with Italian subtitles. They also usually show a good range of films, not just films in English. They tend to avoid the Hollywood Blockbusters, which is good (as most of them are awful) and stick to more interesting pieces. The seats are comfortable and they don't sell food or drink, which to a cinema snob like me means it's great! I can't bear watching a film surrounded by people scoffing popcorn and slurping drinks.

A haven for film fans
Mar 2016 • Couples
Yes, they show films in the original language so we caught up on Hail, Caesar! and Room on a couple of afternoons. The screens and sound are good and the location, just off the mad Via del Corso, is really handy but best of all is the set up. The cinema opens just before the film starts and there is one desk and one other member of staff to check tickets so no bar, popcorn or other distractions. You arrive, buy your ticket (for an allocated seat) sit down and watch the movie. So simple and efficient but also a great escape and break from the madness outside.
Seats are allocated automatically so no choice unless you book online. We got good seats turning up ten minutes before each performance.

Films with subtitles
Dec 2015 • Couples
In the very heart of Rome near via Tomacelli is this small cinema with two small cinema theaters. Their films are often in original language with italian subtitles.
very cosy for a different afternoon in Rome.

Original language films - che bello!
Jul 2014 • Friends
Fabulous cinema showing films in their original version, an island in a fake sea of dubbed nonsense. Should be packed every day of the week but isn't. Please start showing films for kids too early at weekends or at 5 on weekdays - hundreds of people would come, not just me and my daughter. A summer film festival would great fun too - different films every day from the previous 12 months. I'll do it for you if you can't be bothered!

Updated review: Always a disappointment...
Jan 2013 • Friends
I get upset every time I go to Nuovo Olimpia. It is the only original language cinema in Rome, and for this reason it is always a popular place for tourists and cinema enthusiasts in the city. However, this small cinema lacks in customer service, facilities, and true care for their patrons. You get a feeling that they really don't care if we are happy, as they realize that we don't have any alternatives if we want to see a film in English or French in Rome. Specifically, the ticket office is often closed and the individuals selling tickets are often extremely rude, especially if you speak to them in English. Additionally, the last four films I have seen have been overcrowded and therefore there were always people standing at the side of the aisles during the film (talking, texting on their mobile phones, etc). Also, the quality of the projection is always poor! The focus is often off, the images are not centered correctly, and it takes an entire screaming cinema to get the projection room to adjust everything appropriately. Lastly, the toilets are situated inside of the screening room, and therefore you must walk in front of the other viewers in order to use the toilet during the film. Lastly, there are no facilities to buy drinks or a snack during the film. In sum, it's much more comfortable for me to download a film and watch it at home- and it's cheaper too!

The only one in original language version
Jan 2012 • Couples
After the closure of Metropolitan cinema in Via del Corso, Nuovo Olimpia is the only cinema in Rome offering this. It's truly a shame that a capital cannot offer anything more, but the dubbing industry is too strong down here....

Anyway, I am a frequent user of Nuovo Olimpia and the only drawback is that they have two screens only and not all films get released here.
