It was very stressful at the beginning, we couldn’t get on the first train to Sorrento because it was very full and no one would let us on. We felt very unsafe at the train station, and we had no idea what was going on....More
I used this line A couple of times to get from Sorrento to Pompeii and Sorrento to Herculaneum. It is easy to get tickets from the newsagents at Sorrento station and a single fair cost around €2.40. The trains are quite old and nothing great...More
I was originally totally put up with using this service after hearing the terrifying and dreadful reviews, however its not that bad! Yes, its crowded, its hot and its not that quick. However for the price (2.80 euros for Pompeii single way, 3.60 for Sorrento...More
In other parts of Italy, the train service is good, modern and punctual. This, however, is quite different. EVERY train is late. But because ALL the trains are late, they run at the correct intervals. So basically, ignore the timetable, turn up at the station...More
When you need to get from Napoli to Sorrento, but don't want to invest in a Taxi or Chauffeured car, then this the way to go.
Approx. 4 € per head compared to 30€ per head, if you are at least 4 passengers in a...More
Had read about the pickpockets and thieves before travelling on this line but do be prepared and lock up your valuables, it was happening right in front of our eyes, a guy stands next to us, then a woman carrying a baby to distract everyone....More
Booked travel online on their Campania Special Tourist Service. Disappointing. The reservations shown on the printed booking sheet don't mean a thing. Its first come first served to get a seat and they only open one set of doors on each of the two carriages...More
We took the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Pompei scavi today. Cost was under €10.00 for the two of us, round trip.
The train was clean inside, no garbage to be seen. We felt very safe at all times. A pair of local musicians busked on...More

Denise. There are automated ticket machines at Naples Garibaldi. There is also a kiosk if you have problems and most staff speak english. The Circumvesuviana is separate from main railway station, but well signposted. I am not sure of exact costs for each journey, but travel is cheap. My return from Sorrento to Naples was only 9 euros. If you cannot get all tickets at Naples, both Pompeii and Herculeum have kiosks. Remember to validate your tickets. It takes about 30 mins to Pompeii and about 20 to Herculeum. Its all very straightforward. Enjoy.
I would use the Trainline EU app to purchase your tickets as it saves queuing and you don't have to print anything off as the tickets are held on your phone. I just made sure that I had downloaded the tickets at the hotel... More
I would use the Trainline EU app to purchase your tickets as it saves queuing and you don't have to print anything off as the tickets are held on your phone. I just made sure that I had downloaded the tickets at the hotel prior to travelling in case I had WiFi / 4G problems en route.
I booked my day trip from Rome to Pompei (is the name of the town and Pompeii is the name of the archaeological site) using trainline EU and it was so easy.
