For anyone able to walk 1000 metres up a steep gradient, this is well worth doing. You walk up a grit and stone path with magnificent views along the way. You are able to walk half way around the rim of the crater. It is...More

The tour allowed one hour and twenty minutes to get to the top and back. Not for the feint hearted or more appropriately the not so fit! The mount is around 1300mts with a road to 1000mts. Prior to Pompeii eruption, it was approx 3000...More

Did the walk up to the crater of Vesuvius. It is a tough and steep 20 minute walk up on mountain sand, so not the best grip for one's shoes. However, the views from the top is spectacular, that of the Bay of Naples and...More

We stopped here on our way to Naples, thinking it would be nice to stop by and take a quick look at the famous volcano that covered Pompeii. Found out that you can't drive up close to take a look at the crater. When we...More

We got the last bus from Pompei to the crater. It was roughly a 50 minute journey up winding, narrow roads to near the summit. The cost of the bus was €3.10 per person each way which was definitely cheaper than any other option. We...More

Get public transport from Pompei instead of “guided tours - you’ll pay ca. €2 for a ride. When you arrive, you’ll have to pay the admission to the park - 10€/ person which includes a guide explanation on top of the mount. The views are...More

One of the big names in world geography and the Italians try to hide it with the lack of promotion and poor signposting. Persevere and you will be rewarded with a 1 or 2 km steep walk to the rim. Looking into the crater brings...More

The path is very safe and has barriers all the way up. It’s not thru rolling hills, it’s not long enough. Past the entrance gate it goes up via switch backs but not too steep and once you get up to see into crater it’s... More

I also got the train to Pompeii and got the bus from there. The bus I got was 3 euro each way. There is a small bus stop along the left hand side (walking from the train station to the Pompeii entrance) with times on it.
