    Main Square of Capri
This is the main square of Capri with restaurants and shops lining it. The main features of the square are the clocktower and the Church of Santo Stefano. Next to the square is the stop for the Funicular and a great view of the harbour.

"A Spectacular place to rest, relax, refresh & people watch!!"
My husband & I were on vacation to Sorrento and took the ferry over to Capri & Anacapri for a day trip. Once you arrive at the pier down on Marina Grande, buy your tickets to ride the Funicular (tram) (about a 5 minute ride) up to Piazzo Umberto I, which is the main square in the town of Capri. On the main square you will find the famous Clock Tower plus across from it is the Church of Santa Stefano. You will also find lots of tables for outside dining, restaurants/gelato, shopping...but it will be crowded I assure you!! You will mainly find that the views are spectacular from the square of the mountains looking up to Anacapri. There are buses & taxi stands where you can purchase tickets to go up to Anacapri. *HINT: take the bus..only a few Euros where a taxi will cost 25 Euros.

    The main piazza in Capri
This is the main Piazza in Capri and a good place to start your visit. You can get here by taking the funicular from the marina grande. There are some statues and interesting shops around. Also, not far away are the high end shopping area and hotels. You can also take a bus to anacapri from close by.

The main piazza of Capri, if you take the funicolare from the port this is where you will end up. A nice piazza with amazing view of the harbor and Mount Solara, there are some benches to sit and enjoy the view. There are a number of small cafe around the perimeter to grab (and expensive) bite or a drink and watch the world go by. In the evening, sunset is particularly spectacular if you can time it right.

The piazza is very crowded and not that interesting, IMHO. Spending more time in Anacapri would be better.

This is the heart of Capri and at night it is filled with people eating in cafes. I was not interested in sitting and eating there, but just sat down and people watched, listened to the music playing, and then wandered the streets that leave the Piazza. Just a great place to relax and unwind.

Very nice square where you can hop on the funicular, grab a taxi or wait in line for a bus. The streets leading to and from the square are lined with shops, cafes and restaurants. There are many very expensive designer shops in the area. The square is quite busy. Best to avoid Capri when there are large cruise ships in Naples. Or visit in the evening after the cruise ship passengers head back to the ships.

This square is in the centre of Capri town and is where the hoards of tourists piling off the funicular and the busses from other parts of the island head to first when they arrive. Surrounded by bars and restaurants it’s very lively at most times, but probably too lively. And anyway we all know what an Italian tourist square looks like and this is no different to most.
By all means have a look, but then head off towards Chiesa di Santo Stefano and the narrow lanes of whitewashed houses beyond for the real Capri Town.

Just walked through the square to get a feel of where the main action is on Capri. It’s busy but lovely to see and people watch. Some great views across the water from just near the square at the top of the funicular.

This is the place to be for great people watching, great Aperol Spritz and lots of bell ringing from the bell tower (every 15 minutes - loud!) Everyone funnels through this area. Great spot to sit, sip, relax and watch the world go by.
