I had found this store online before my trip, and made a point of checking it out. It's a little hard to find, just below Plaza de Santo Domingo, but Calle Campomanes also leads driectly from Plaza de Isabel II (Opera Metro stop, near the...More

Superb collection of international and Spanish literature, and Spanish interest books in a beautiful small bookshop, lovingly maintained by obvious booklovers, both well-read and (most importantly) friendly! This is a must-do when in Madrid and a must-buy when in the shop, you won't come away...More

I went to this shop looking for a rare book. Even though they didn't have it, the young Englishman there helped me find it and order it. Even though my short time in Madrid meant he didn't get the sale, he was very helpful and...More

A fantastic little bookshop with an extremely well curated selection of books, first editions and signed copies. The staff is very friendly and professional. I visited during an impromptu concert inside the bookshop with red wine flowing and a great atmosphere all around.

I have traveled all over the world and bookshops are always the first stop in any city. Desperate Literature is a terrific little bookshop. A bit like the historic Shakespeare and Company in Paris or City Lights in San Francisco. Old world bohemian feel. Very...More
