The area
Address
Neighbourhood: La Rambla
Barcelona's most famous street was once a dry riverbed. Now, La Rambla is a 1200-metre boulevard, and a major draw for visitors. During the day, La Rambla fills with pedestrians, some of which stroll past impressive human statues and artists while others take a break to people-watch while enjoying a drink at one of the many terraces. Housed here is the iconic Boqueria Market that offers one of the most varied and appetising selections of local produce and specialty meats and treats. While it’s important for tourists to keep an eye on their belongings at all times, this area is most safely explored in the daytime and is a must see for everyone who visits.

It is a cheap looking market, it could have still a charm, but the neighborhood area seems very dirty and dangerous. First time I felt a bit unsafe walking alone in Barcelona /daylight)I don't think it's worth a trip. It is a bit like Smithfield (Gorton, Manchester UK) Market.

The market is quite pricey, albeit offers a good range of quality food, drink etc.
The real hidden gem is down the road at Superilla Peatonal Sant Antoni - a road junction turned into a picnic area, with range of food shops etc to indulge in; either grab a bite from the Mercat or closer by and enjoy the world going by as its a popular place.

A highly ornate building houses a plethora of fresh foods, all laid out in impressive corridors of stalls and outlets.
Dating from the early 1880s, metalwork is one of its signature elements. From early morning it supplies residents of the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni with the best of healthy food.

After an decade of renovations, the traders of the provisional market of Sant Antoni returned to the impressive Rovira i Trias building in 2018. The octagonal dome is the crown that structures the market’s cross-shaped corridors.

Far from the madding crowd, this market is mostly used by locals, the exterior and interior is spotless the design is quite pleasing we especially liked the Lidl in the basement

I've already written a review of Casa Blanca, an awful restaurant in this market. Unfortunately, the market, itself, is also disappointing. Many stalls were closed, and the whole atmosphere was depressing. Sometimes going where the locals go doesn't pay off.

Went admittedly late on a Friday afternoon as most of the stores were closed so managed to try 3 - one for cured meats, one for prepared food and one by the entrance for nuts. Of the 3 only the cured meats one (by the back) was decent - we bought 4 croquettes to go, all different flavors, quite tasty when reheated later. The prepared foods next to it was poor - they must have used rancid oil in their fried food. The nuts stall at the entrance sold us marcona almonds that were not fresh. I would not recommend this market.

For those who wish to experience one of Barcelona’s many markets but would rather not deal with the throngs of tourists at the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, or as its usually known La Boqueria. There is a nearby alternative a little more than a ten-minute walk away.
The Mercat de Sant Antoni in the neighborhood of the same name is one of the largest markets in Barcelona. Originally built in 1882 it has in recent years undergone some major renovations.
It is easily reached from most places in the city and has a its own Metro stop Sant Antoni serving Line 2. Alternatively, one can cut through the el Ravel District from La Rambla or wander down the tree lined Ronda de Sant Antoni from Plaza de Catalunya. For those coming from the south it's only a couple of blocks north of Avenue del Para-lel.
The market itself is cruciform in shape and perhaps is best known for its metal roof. Inside one will find various stalls and vendors selling dairy products, baked goods, meat and fish, and fresh fruits and vegetables as in other markets. Naturally if staring at this cornucopia on display makes you hungry there are several cafes and restaurants to choose from.
There is more than just food. Stalls and stores selling all sorts of clothes, toiletries, cosmetics, jewelers, and electronics are here as well. Sundays see coin and book sellers gather here as well. The market even has a fitness center within its immense interior. This is more a neighborhood essential service than a tourist attraction. Maybe it is due to the renovations, but the interior seems more sterile and modern than nearby la Boqueria. This however does not detract from either the architecture, or the ambiance of the fresh produce on display.

Authentic market experience away from the "main" one. Love the slower paced, less crowded option. The food is just as delicious! The city has some 40 markets, and strolling through for daily offerings are a way of life, definitely something worth experiencing when in town!

Hi! We're staying at the Alcam books condos. I was wondering how safe this area is for walking in the evenings? We are a family of 3 (with a teenager). We are from Chicago, so we're knowledgeable of how to keep safe in cities, but we just wanted to make sure we're okay in this area.

We had no issues with security or any feeling of insecurity. Take the normal precautions of not wearing expensive jewellery, etc as you would do anywhere else in the US

Ola Eduard164, la respuesta a tu información es rápida.
En este mercado no hay restaurante de momento, ya que hace unos años esta en obras, lo están haciendo todo nuevo y me imagino que hasta dentro de dos años no funcionara
Espero haberte complacido
Un saludo
