My wife is from there and, being from Madrid, I naturally looked down on it, but wow! It has changed so much. Lots of nightlife, great restaurants, great tapas (La Lorencita, Ojeda and La Favorita are among my favorites.

Though the old historical section of Burgos is pretty much outlined, it is not that segregated and “walled off” as say, the Gothic Quarter or El Born in Barcelona. Modernity has been intertwined with a large portion of the old city. Nevertheless it is quite nice and recognizable.

This place was the area that has brought me back to Spain 6 times! I love visiting this area of Spain. It has an enormous amount of cultural history, great restaurants in the town square, the cathedral and the surrounding neighborhood are a gem! It is central to many famous locations, and is accessible from Madrid through bus transportation. I will always be back!

Although not quite as grand or dramatic as some other towns and cities (apart from the fabulous cathedral of course) the old town area of Burgos is a pleasant place to wander around. There are several interesting old churches (no surprise there) as well as little, narrow streets with a good selection of shops, cafes and bars.
This is our first visit to Burgos and we like it, the only negative being the amount of mindless graffiti that seems to be everywhere.

Burgos has a charming, well-preserved old town (so clean!) and a wonderful gothic cathedral. I loved the Museo de la Evolución too, just off the old town. I have been there a couple of times and can't wait to get back there. The Cathedral, the Plaza Mayor, The Theatre, the avenue by the river Arlanzón are a must-see. The Monasterio de las Huelgas, 20min away on foot from the cathedral, is well worth a visit too.

Plaza mayor, the Cathedral, the cobbled stones of the old town, the theatre, every corner you turn there is something to admire. We spent ages in the cathedral and hours walking the city, wonderful at night when the cathedral is lit up. A beautiful discovery ,

This city, in particular, this area, has an amazing vibe. The pace is slower than in larger cities, but there is nothing small about this city. Lots to see. Take your time.

We dropped in for lunch at Burgos while driving from Leon to San Sebastián but wish we’d at least had a night here. There is so much to see and do so the couple of hours we had allowed was way too short.

Burgos historic center is full of charming spots, atmospheric cafes, lovely shops, beautiful bridges on the river Arlonzòn...
The heart of Burgos is Plaza Del Rey San Fernando and the wonder of the world Gothic treasures, Burgos Cathedral is right there.
The uphill walk to the ruins of Castillo Burgos is very pleasant and a good exercise. Go there for the panoramic views.
We also liked the Plaza Mayor with its Picts bright houses, the Theater, medieval Casa de Colon... and so many gorgeous churches...
Lovely town, stunning Cathedral, nice walks... Highly recommend!

Hi, What was the weather like in northern Spain in October, when you were there? My wife & I leave in about a month and will be in Spain for the last 2 weeks. There are many places we would like to see, but only 2 weeks to do everything. I was happy to see your comments about Burgos as I was trying to decide it it was worth a stop. Thank you;

Nos gustaria venir con una niña de 2 años para el puente de diciembre. Hay mercado de Navidad? Necesito apartahoteles que esten bien. Gracias

We are visiting Spain in our motorhome. Where would be the best place for us to park so that we can enjoy the city centre? Thank you. Jane

I believe you can park free up by the castle or possibly just below (a bit closer to town) . Although a bit steep is a short walk from there to town center. Suggest you also send an email to the Tourist Office.
