This was a great museum and definitely worth a visit IF you don’t have small children - there is a lot of reading on the exhibits to understand the flow of events and I think they might be bored; and IF you don’t have low vision - it’s fairly dark with white writing and poor lighting and could be difficult to see. We were there on a 94 degree day and they don’t have air conditioning (or it wasn’t on) so by the time we reached the top floor it was sweltering. We really wanted to visit the excavation site but found out it has to be arranged well in advance via email or phone.

Great Museum
Mar 2020 • Couples
The museum did a phenomenal job of explaining evolution and the history of the discoveries at Atapuerca, as well as around the world. We started with the audio guides but found we didn’t need them after 30 minutes because of the clear and concise posted English translations. Many displays were interactive. Definitely worth a visit. I just wished we had time to go to the excavations. Unfortunately, we discovered the excavation trip is only offered in Spanish, so we are going to need to improve our Spanish before we visit the next time.

A very well done display to inform and educate about the Atapuerca discoveries and its place in the understanding of human evolution.

Highly recommended

Lying on the opposite side of the Arlanzón River from the cathedral is the airy glass structure of the Museum of Human Evolution. Just outside Burgos is the UNESCO-recognized site of Atapuerca, where rich deposits of hominid fossils and bones going back 1.3 million years were found. The museum is based on those findings and does an excellent job explaining evolution, in general, and hominid evolution, specifically. I wish we could've spent more time here.

Amazing Museum, well worth a visit
Sep 2019
The Museum of Evolution and the dig at Atapuerca are incredible. Huge museum building. Lots of great exhits, graphics, display and explanations. Mostly in Spanish, but about 80% translated into English. Really interesting. We were bowled over by this place. An incredible story of painstaking research and archeology. We were there for about 2.5 hours.

fantastic museum on the subject!
Sep 2019
i read what others have said of their visits to this museum and though i agree with them that there is no coffee shop there, and that the displays are only explained in Spanish and in English..... if you can read either of those languages, this museum is well worth a visit. it is not expensive to get into it and it is a great space to wonder in, the displays are pleasant to look at, informative, up to date and well done. a great description of human evolution as we currently understand it, and a great description of what has been discovered near Burgos in the local palaeontological digs. the museum has no woman/man bias in my view.
i can only highly recommend a visit to this museum which is very educational. i suppose it is not real of interest much to children under the age of 15 as there is a lot of reading to do there but we enjoyed our visit there very much.

Interesting museum

Some very interesting exhibits in this museum. However I found the building far too much like an enormous barn. A horrible piece of architecture!

Try to get a guide, it will be more interesting. If you cannot, go anyway, it shows the human evolution and more.

Excellent museum dealing with the evolution of our species. Cavernous spaces and all very well set out. Odd that they don't have a cafe, but there is one about 50x away, so go there for coffee.

A very well-curated, and vast museum
Jul 2019
The "prehistory" section is usually one that we skip in most museums, but this the curation of this museum meant that a four-hour visit was hugely informative, and very interesting. The multimedia exhibits, interacive sections and multi-language explanations mean that the museum is accessible to visitors of all ages and nationalities.
