I went to Esplanade and Rupperbahn 2 nights in a row. Worst experience ever in term of atmosphere. Dealer beg for tips even if your down. Actually I was down a lot of money after several spins and the dealer started to ask for tips. It was really inappropriate considering my losses. It was "next door" almost every time. One of the dealers started to explain me he was living because of tips. I replied the following: "Instead of being self-centered you should consider a different approach much more focused on client's satisfaction". The funny part of this was that the same dealer I had the argument with at Esplanade spielbank was at Rupperbahn spielbank the following night. When he saw me he briefed the manager in german about what happened. One of my bet was over the max and they would pay me even if my wife placed the bet. I told them I was not happy and there would be no tip. The manager said: "we already know Sir..." What a disgrace to behave like this with a client!…

This is a review for the Esplanade Spielbank casino. There other Spielbank casinos in Hamburg but this is the main one. This is a casino where you need to pay to enter, pay to drink, pay to rent a jacket. Quite a lot of paying before you even start playing! My game is roulette. Tables were comfortable and the place was elegant. Smoke free room which was nice. Minimum bet 2 euros. What really got on my nerves was the begging of the croupiers. They were constantly asking for tips! I understand this is Germany the home of austerity and wages are frozen since the unification, but that's not my fault! Ask higher salaries and stop begging! And if you have too at least beg from the high rollers not the small fish. I had to laugh after a certain point.…

I have never been somewhere so horrible. The staff were so rude despite spending so much money. The first question I asked when sitting down was what the tipping etiquette is as I come from a non tipping country so didn't know. I had given the dealer the appropriate amount of tips all night (maybe even over tipped). On one occasion though I was still pulling in my chips and then had the pit boss/overseer bluntly tell me I'm rude for not tipping (2 euro). Wow give a girl a minute. He kept going off at me so asked to speak to the manager who was equally as rude. Tipping is for good service and I was happy to tip the lady but the service I received from the managers was plain horrible. I have never been treated so rudely and with such little respect. I would never recommend this place to anyone - save your money…

This casino is not poker player friendly. Previous reviews mention the dress code which essentially is an entry tax, 2€ entry fee, 5€ coat fee (which nobody wears at the table), and .5€ to have your own coat hung up. I played first on a Monday night, there were 3 tables going, a 2/4, 5/5, and 5/10 PLO. All of them played like higher stakes with a min bankroll of 100/200BB. The second night I got there at 8 pm when the game started at 7:30. The table was already full of the same regular sharks from the night before with a list varying of up to 10 players. After waiting 2 hours to play, I asked the poker room and casino manager directly why they wouldn't open a second table. The direct reply was that they would not spare another dealer for poker as the casino was busy. The manager actually told me, "I'd rather you play roulette." Rude, amateur unfriendly, and expensive, casual poker players should beware!…
