The fountain is located in front of the New Town Hall on Marienplatz and was built in the middle ages. There sculpture included a fish on top and some people below. A good landmark for meeting up.

The fountain is located in Marienplatz close to the information center. It can be easy to miss if it's really busy. The fountain does look quite interesting with people holding buckets around the side and a single fish on the top of the fountain. The buckets all have water trickling from them. The sides of the fountain has carvings on it. It was an interesting looking fountain.

One of the interesting things to see at Marienplatz in the Old Town is the Fischbrunnen (fish fountain). This is the work of German sculptor Josef Henselman (1954), replacing an earlier fountain that was badly damaged during WWII bombings. We were happen to find the fountain still in operation during our early December visit to Munich. What you see here is a octagonal-shaped basin filled with a large quantity of water. The basin has outer carvings of livestock and other market scenes. In the centre, you will find a pedestal with three seated young lads spilling water into the basin. Above them sits a fat bronze fish. Its a neat fountain, worth spending a few minutes to enjoy.
