Surprisingly good

A nice mix of modern and medieval art, low key but good quality. We spent much more time here than expected.

Excelent regional art museum
Oct 2019
While this museum does have some paintings by Rigaud (famous Perpignanais painter of LouisXIV's court), it is much more a collection of regional art. I especially enjoyed the medieval pieces. There is also a temporary show of Rodin and Maillol which can be viewed for an extra fee.

For Art lovers
Sep 2019
A small, friendly and rather provincial museum. Not one to make a trip for, but if you are in Perpignan and love Art - go by all means

Chance discovery
Aug 2019
We discovered this museum just a few doors down from our holiday apartment in Perpignan last week and found an excellent temporary exhibition of Rodin's works on the top floor. Thoughtfully displayed, well lit and with very welcome air-conditioning on a hot day. One of the highlights of our stay in the south of France.

Fascinating comparison between Maillol & Rodin.
Jul 2019 • Couples
There is currently an exhibition showing the styles of Rodin & Maillol. If you love sculpture then this is not be missed, I would dare you to choose but they are both amazing scupltors.
The Musee also has a range of other atrists displayed on the next level.

Truly a Jewel in the crown of Perpignan
Apr 2019 • Couples
This revamped and greatly extended central museum of Perpignan is wonderful. I went a few years ago and being quite impressed with the collection, the displays were dark and the whole place felt as if it was hung over from the 19th century. Today, it is airy, light and spacious with outside courtyards strategically displaying Maillol’s bronzes. And one can take photos. The permanent collection of paintings and sculptures ranges from local modest but talentd artists like Terrus to world famous names; Dufy, Maillol, Picasso, to name but three. There are temporary exhibitions that have equally professional emphasis and recently the film poster artist Antoni Clavé fills the hall. This is not a museum where your legs and brain tire before the end of the visit. I love it and felt stimulated to know more about the local talented artists

Excellent centre of culture

Really interesting collection of art in a beautiful building which included an excellent special exhibition by the artist Raoul Dufy. This was fantastic. The only thing that spoiled it was a sudden power failure towards the end of our visit but clearly not the fault of the museum!

Most Art In One Place In Perpignan
Oct 2018 • Solo
Like most Perpignan places of interest, the museum is in a historic building in the heart of old town. The permanent collection is small but nice. There is a room for Picasso ceramics, something most people don't know about him. Picasso was fond of Perpignan and stayed in this mansion for a time. The special Raoul Dufy exhibit was well designed and provided a good retrospective look at the artist's evolution. There were some surprising works such as tapestries. Art museums are one of the 3 things I do when I am visiting places, and this is one you should see in Perpignan.

Pretty good gallery with excellent temporary exhibition of Duffy in Perpignan
Oct 2018 • Couples
The gallery itself and its permanent displays are interesting and reasonably good. However, the temporary exhibition of Dufy's work when he lived in the area is excellent and well worth visiting. It offers a good understanding of his technique and the matters that influenced him. The pictures and well displayed and easy to see.
