- Vanessa MOxford, United Kingdom18 contributionsA bit of a gemSo glad we stopped in here - I'm not usually much of a fan of formal gardens but these really won me over. The grounds are so thoughtfully planned and maintained, they're a delight to explore and whatever your views on topiary it's impossible not to be seriously impressed by the dedication to these displays. There's something a bit surreal and magical about it all.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2023
- 123maidmarionNottingham, United Kingdom12 contributionsFabulousA wonderful place to visit. Fascinating Hall staffed by lovely, helpful and knowledgeable volunteers. They are a credit to English Heritage. Beautiful extensive gardens too, we can't wait to visit again when the roses are out.Visited April 2023Written 29 April 2023
- Andrea JOldham, United Kingdom3 contributionsWell worth a visit!Excellent visit to this lovely hall and immaculate gardens. The grounds are beautifully maintained by the staff and volunteers and the house is preserved just as the last occupants left it. The volunteers inside the house were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Well worth a visit.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 May 2023
- DiscerningPenguinCambridge, United Kingdom205 contributionsUnusual and poignantThe rooms are a fascinating slice of history and really very poignant as they contain several generations of items used by the family that owned the property. I liked the idea of 'managed decay' rather than over-restoration that you see in some properties. I also enjoyed rambling about the 15 acres of gardens, so well-laid out that it felt quiet and secluded even when there were a lot of people about.Visited April 2023Written 8 May 2023
- ChiquitaclaritaSheffield, United Kingdom39 contributionsBeautiful placeHad a lovely day here and didn’t realise it’s so close to home. Ian on the front desk was brilliant and explained everything. The volunteers in the house were great and explained things as I went around. The gardens are Amazing and so beautiful even in the bad weather. The only thing that spoiled it was the volume of the cinema that was in the garden. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was the cafe was a little disappointing. The staff were lovely and the kitchen and servery were so small they were limited as what they could well. I will definitely be a regular visitorVisited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 13 May 2023
- Debbie T10 contributionsGreat! We really enjoyed ,out visit, here, what a lovely well kept place! The gardens/grounds are fabulous and the house was a real surprise. We loved the very eclectic collection and how it was all presented . The volunteers were also very friendly and knowledgeable (15th May). Would definitely recommend.Visited May 2023Written 17 May 2023
- Yorkshire-GuysYork, United Kingdom96 contributionsGardens of Exceptional QualityThe gardens are exceptional, they are kept to a very high standard. As were once our public parks. A standard very rarely seen today. It's a credit to Brodsworth Hall's Head Gardener and those who maintain the gardens. The seasonal bedding displays are truly fantastic. If we lived closer we would be very regular visitors. Well worth our membership. Well done English Heritage.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 May 2023
- Mark F5 contributionsFabulous apart from some condescending staff volunteers.Amazing place and feels like walking around a Victorian pad back in time. Great original furniture, carpets, wallpaper and rooms that appear as if the family has gone out for the day. I didn't expect to be shouted at by a female volunteer at the entrance though for touching a chair (no signs or advice given) in front of other visitors and telling me it's 160 years old in a condescending tone. Highly unprofessional and not required. Nor do I expect to be told that I couldn't see a part of the hallway that I'd missed as it was closing, by another power hungry staff member, when I was already inside, paid and it was 3.20 on a Sunday and was open for another 40 minutes!! A male staff member tried to get us up the staircase but we just left it. The rest of the staff are great. Cafe is very expensive, take a picnic and explore the gardens. Entrance isn't cheap either.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 May 2023
- Andy B2 contributionsBeautiful grounds.Fantastic place, great grounds and gardes. But oh please . . . . History is history, its in the word, it happened, the history of the building doesn't need to gve me a lecture time and time again about the mahogany trade. People are not stupid, they make their own minds up and know right from wrong.Visited August 2022Travelled with familyWritten 6 July 2023
- Christine KBarnsley, United Kingdom836 contributionsBrass on the grassWe decided to have an afternoon out here, bring EH members, and it being fairly local. We didn't go in the house as we come here quite often, but it is well worth seeing. The summer gardens were lovely, with a great bedding plant display in the fountain garden. There was a brass band playing outside the house and we sat and listened for a while. Bands will be playing every Sunday for the next few weeks so we will return on a sunnier day with deck chairs and a picnicVisited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 August 2023

A wonderful place, so much to see and explore. There is a lot of history about this place that I did not know before but it all seemed interesting. The gardens are beautiful and colourful. Also, there is a tea room and a gift shop, but I did not think the entry for this place would cost so much. I would still recommend it, it is a beautiful place.

Booked for a guided tour of the gardens with my sister. Our guide was a lady called Ann, who gave us a splendid tour around the wonderful gardens. She made it interesting and had a wealth of knowledge about the history of both the house and gardens. It was both enjoyable and interesting with a sprinkling of humour. The work the volunteers do is incredible ever inch taken care of. We finished our afternoon with a visit to the cafe for tea and a scone which was delicious. Well done Brodsworth volunteers

This place was by far the best. The shows there were amazing. We walked round the garden and spent 2 to 3 hours there. A good English Heritage.

Wanted to see some snowdrops, so I had a trip out here. Unfortunately, I had taken my NT card instead of my EH card, but the lovely assistant managed to find me on the computer system and let me in. The snowdrops by the church were lovely, and there were hellebores and aconites around the garden too. Had a nice walk around but didn't stay too long as I come here often and have, seen most of the gardens several times

Always love going to Brodsworth, been visiting for years. One of the things that always amazes me is the volunteers and their incredible knowledge of the family and history of the hall and their loyalty to the place in which they volunteer. They are really one of the best parts of visiting Brodsworth (English Heritage/National trust properties in general ) with their fascinating and quirky little stories about the place that, with them giving up their free time and putting so much time and effort into learning about themselves, are then able to pass that valuable knowledge and history onto the public. Brodsworths volunteers are a real credit to the place and should be treated like gold dust!
One of the very things I think most people will agree on is that the National Trust have been in self destruct mode for a few years now with their persistent “woke” agenda and basically trying to ram left wing political ideologies down peoples necks. People have cancelled their memberships and the National Trust have lost countless long standing volunteers who are just sick to the back teeth of it - whereas English Heritage have stayed clear from going down this route, which is good because let’s face it, nobody is really interested and nobody but nobody wants to see constant trigger warnings or apologies/explanations on woke subjects all over the place!
Visitors just want to turn up, see a beautiful old house, learn about the family, the servants, and the daily running of the household from a bygone era - learn about the different rooms used by family and servants and what they were used for, see old photographs etc etc. It’s what people really want when visiting Britains historical country houses and well done to Brodsworth and English Heritage on the whole for sticking to this and doing it very well!

Fabulous walk around the gardens to see the snowdrops and the spring flowers beginning to bloom. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable from our welcome to when we left. We had our own personal guide around the servants bedrooms which were open and all the guides were very knowledgeable and friendly without being pushy. Will definitely return when the house is open and the gardens in full bloom. Highly recommended

This was our first experience with a British Hall and what a fantastic choice it was. Absolutely gorgeous grounds and everyone who worked there were so friendly and welcoming. It made the experience even better to have people like that around everywhere ready and willing to answer questions. We are really looking forward to seeing what it is like in a different season when we go back.

A super place for a visit, especially the gardens. Let down by the cafe though. The coffee was weak and insipid and, despite only opening on Saturday and Sunday, the scones were very stale.

Quite expensive tickets for entrance. There's a souvenir shop and a café shop. We also saw a small area where you could buy plants and herbs in pots. The garden itself it's very well looked after and it's beautiful. The building shows some history which is a great idea. It's a good place for some nice photos.

Can you visit Brodsworth with national trust membership.
VCB56

It’s an English Heritage property so National Trust membership doesn’t count.

Are the hall and garden wheel chair friendly ?

The gardens aren’t fully wheelchair suitable. There are parts where you have to go down stairs to get to the bottom.
It’s uphill to the house and gardens on gravel type paths. It’s downhill to the church and the same steep slope back.

Can you pay just to access the gardens? Or do you have to pay for the hall as well?

I believe the entry price now includes both hall and gardens. In the past you could buy separate tickets but looking on the English Heritage website it looks as if this is no longer the case.

Is this suitable for a 11 and 7 year old or would they find it boring
Ian B

I think they might find indoors boring. But the gardens contain some interesting walks, wooded, some steep stone steps, sunken garden and lots of birds.

there is a bus to the village and a short walk to the entrance of the grounds it would be easier to get a taxi as others have said if you are bothered about a walk.
