This is a great museum. The exhibits are of a high quality and keep you engaged all the way round. The staff are superb, looking after the visitor and adding extra detail.

Interesting museum
Oct 2021
Lots to see here and great to see historic buildings put to good use. Entrance costs £2-3 ( free for locals) and is well worth it. We didn’t have time to explore all of the exhibits but everything is well presented and cared for. There is lots of information to read if you have time too. Apart from the obvious details of maritime history, involvement with the slave trade and the subsequent wealth of the area it was interesting to see the section on the Morecambe Bay gas field which we knew nothing about. There are parking spaces along the quayside which are free for 3 hours too.

Very interesting about hidden history
Sep 2021 • Family
Visited after recommendation from information centre. Well worth the trouble, very informative about lancasters history as a port and it's involvement in the slave trade. Very sensitively approached and even asked for visitors views. Small but beautifully formed.

Lancaster Council needs to get this place better signposted from city centre,

A good museum

Lots of information but as everyone seemed to arrive at once the canal gallery was very busy and given the pandemic I didn't want to go in so had to give it a miss. The rest of the museum wasn't as busy but was very informative.

An ok museum-Free for locals
Aug 2021 • Friends
Ok but didn’t really capture the interest of a 6 year old. Lots of facts to read. An activity sheet for children may have made it more interesting. We only stayed around 20 mins but it is free for locals & something to do on a wet afternoon

Really nice museum
Jul 2021
Another impressive little museum that makes great use of its space and has really nice exhibits. One of the most impressive parts is how it handles Lancaster's connection to the slave trade.

A hour well spent

An interesting little museum and learnt a lot about the Morecambe Nobbies and about the Waterwitch. Friendly staff. Some great posters of the old steam ferries. Sitting in the fisherman’s kitchen and listening to the oral histories was very interesting

Well Worth a Visit!
Feb 2020 • Family
I recently visited the museum with my husband and 2 daughters (age 4 and 9). We had a fabulous morning looking around and learning more about Lancaster and the surrounding area. It is extremely well kept and offers an insight in to times gone by, in an interactive and well presented way.
Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely little museum, lots of interesting little bits of history about shipping in the area, and the wider region. Very friendly staff and a beautiful building. Would recommend.
