To me the highlight of the lovely Shambles is visiting the Shrine of St Margaret Clitherow, where Mass is celebrated every Saturday morning at 10.00am. It's nice walking down the street before it gets really crowded, and then after Mass one can enjoy 'elevenses' at...More

Beautiful little cobbled street, used we were told as the inspiration for some of the Harry Potter streets. Shops quite varied.

A truly delightful area of the town with some great little shops and a nice market just off it. I did feel they should wind back on some of the HP tat, wind up some of the other quality stores and celebrate the historic side...More

York is steeped in history and culture. Any visit to the city must include a visit to the Shambles. With its cobbled street and wibbly wobbly medieval shops you are immediately transported back in time. You can even imagine Harry Potter appearing to meet and...More

Quaint city centre street with independent shops to browse. Highlight is the Shambles Tavern, a beautiful selection of fine ales at your dispersal. Be prepared for a lot of people in a small area.

Loved the shops around the Shambles, great for Harry Porter fans as well as all the wonderful unique shops. Christmas market was well worth visiting with loads of unusual items on sale. Would also definitely recommend the mulled wine

A number of the shops have step free entrances. That said, shops are small and the narrow cobbled street can be difficult to navigate.

There is Gert & Henry's which is closest to the Shambles, also The Blue Boar (where Dick Turpins body was laid to rest in the cellar, you can eat your dinner in the cellar) and Slug & Lettuce near the bridge is very quirky.
