Hired a boat ( skipper) from broom boats and there level of service was second to none, it wasn’t overly busy but it can be a struggle finding a mooring sometimes must be a nightmare in high season, some of the pubs we ate in the food was good but the pubs themselves could do with some refurbishment. The place is beautiful and you get to see a lot of wildlife (top tip bring binoculars ) and enjoy life at a slower pace, we sailed on the southern broads this time and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

As a lover of Norfolk and a visitor of many years I was so upset to see lots of waterside pubs and shops closed now--whether post pandemic or otherwise--shortage of moorings proved a problem --and the anti social "music" partyboat an unpleasant intrusion --even in the middle of a broad mud weighted in peace party boats blasting dreadful Mama Mia after 9pm each evening--boom boom music from a lot of boaters spoiled the atmosphere --had to motor absolute miles to find any peace at all--day boaters in the main were ok but a lt were drunk ( or worse) and were like pesky flies on the water -- our boat from Herbert woods was vintage but okay but advice now would be dont expect the broads as they were--stock up food as fuel stops and pubs are reduced and expect to motor miles to get some famous broads peace -- Rangers out in force but no control was seen by myself --Broads authority when contacted admitted that things are worse with youth nuisance increased litter everywhere floating empty bottles and cans etc --wont be rushing back

- as we travelled around. In many places though, the wild flowers / grasses have grown so much that the Broads themselves are not so easy to see. the algae which has built up during the hot weather seems to be on many ponds / slow moving water as well.

Just come back from the worst holiday I have ever been on by far! The boat was miles older than the pictures, the beds were very small, the so called bedrooms were too cramped, very smelly and poor toilet. Galley okay, but the Microwave did not work! Parts of the fridge was broken!
Now we come to the Broads! Well for starters there are far too many boats for the moorings available and where you can get one you have to moor by 2-3pm, this is after you have spent most of your day looking for one.
There are little to zero attractions, the guide highlight 'post offices' and Pubs, if you can find a pub by the water's edge, the small amount of public mooring (1 or 2)have been taken early and the rest are private high price affairs.
All in all I will never visit again, the broads authority and boat hire companies seriously need to up thier game, the Norfolk Broads are a dissapointment of a national parks and an embarrasment as a tourist attraction.

The level of resentment shown towards tourists in here is staggering. We did not feel welcome in here. Car park spaces needs to be increased.

It’s nice to travel among the river taking in what this area of the country has to offer. Some beautiful views, houses and public houses. Some of the more popular pubs get very busy, so it may be worth phoning ahead and booking a table.

We have just visited Norfolk Broads Park on holiday. The walks are superb & the scenery amazing. The part that birders on the edge of Norfolk & Suffolk is absolutely beautiful. We have enjoyed staying here so much.

We hired a boat for 2 hours so we could cruise the Broads from Wroxham into the busy part of the waterway, then back the other way to just peace and quiet. The Broads delivers what ever you are looking for. There are lovely little areas away from the hurly burly where you can sit and enjoy watching the amazing boats go by and the wildlife.

Whilst the area is lovely and the boating quite enjoyable and relaxing, the broads is really let down by the unfriendly locals and private boat owners. It’s disappointing to see how unwelcoming they are to tourists and how much of a protectionist attitude they have, there are so many ways that they could profit from tourists , yet they chooses to be estranged instead.
Would also say the the pubs along the river are nothing special and definitely have room for improvement .
Anther issue is that morings are very limited for hire boats and a lot of space is taken up by private boats, you generally have to be parked up by 2-3pm to get a good spot . However some of the scenery is lovey and the tourists all very friendly and helpful to each other.

Just arrived after our amazing week away at the south Norfolk broads . We had the broom skipper 1 and for two people this boat was amazing ! I have to say the staff at broom boats were amazing nothing was too much trouble and I mean nothing from fixing our toilet loading our luggage taking it to the car and emptying out rubbish . If you have never done the broads you are missing out and I would totally recommend broom boats and enjoy the experience 10/10 service and a holiday we will never forget 👏🏻

How picturesque are the Southern Broads? We did a boating holiday last year in the Northern Broads - we particularly liked how quiet and picturesque the River Ant was, meandering, views not obscured by tall reeds, natural mooring spots tucked away every now and then.
What are the Southern Broads like? I spent just a few hours on a boat going south of Great Yarmouth about 30 years ago! I remember it being very flat, not much to see, often couldn't see anything but reeds. Is there more to the Southern Broads than that?

Hello 👋. We are cruising from brundall for a week at the end of the month. We've been on the Northern Broads before, can anyone suggest a good family itinerary for the South? We have 2 kids.
Would you recommend staying south or crossing into North?
Thanks in advance 🙂🙂🙂

Hi,
We have hired a cruiser out of Wroxham for 3 nights in July, with two children (11 and 12). Any suggestions for a do-able route would be very welcome. Also, I am reading reviews that make me think mooring could be a challenge, and we might need a dingy, so we can moor a little way out and ‘commute’ to shore - any ideas?
Thanks

Hi there. We are visiting Norfolk for the first time in a few weeks and staying in a caravan which we have hired at Breydon Water. Whilst we are in Norfolk we would love to do a trip along The Broads, however instead of marsh land we would love to see pretty places and drop into a nice pub perhaps. Can anyone suggest where we need to be to see these sights? Thanks

Thank you for your reply. I think we are considering travelling by car to locate the north broads and pick up a boat trip from there. The villages in that area are simply stunning. We are looking forward to our holiday and I thank you for your recommendation :)

Hi Kate thanks for your review, this helped us make a decision to take out a two week first time ever boat hire, We start from Brundall.
we'd really appreciate if you (or anyone else seeing this post) have an insight into what itinerary this novice boat crew of three adults and our little dog might take, we are not in any hurry and could spend a few days in one place.

Hi Tim,
It will be busy on the water.
In time frame of your holiday you should be able to up to Wroxham.
Be aware that bridge heights will play a factor.
The boats are generally well appointed.
There are lots of free moorings available but they fill up quick so be early....give you time to take the dog for a good afternoon walk.
Books (real or kindle) a must as well as cards or rummicub
Take wellies, old towel to dry dog off if he is inclined to swim.

Hi, head for Wroxham, plenty going on there, hire a dayboat, travel down the river, check out Wroxham broad, then Salhouse Broad then on to Horning, which is about as far as you'll probably manage with kids in a day, plenty to see.

I would definitely base myself at Wroxham. From there you can take the train or bus all over the Broads. If you google 'Things to do around Wroxham for Children ' you will see some entertainment for them. Happy Holidays.

The cost of filling a boat for (6 people) looking to stay for 7 nights...so weighing up the additional hidden costs?

It really depends on how far you travel. If you're hiring from a boatyard fuel is included in your total price. We began our boat journey from Wroxham. We went to Stalham (great clubhouse in the chalet park opposite the boatyard with cheap meals etc. ).
We also moored up at Potter Heignham + from there we caught a bus to Gt. Yarmouth.
We did a couple of other villages all on the North broads. We got app. £60 back from the fuel tank.
So unless you're going from North to South Broads, you'll definitely have enough fuel.
