About
The garden is open from 3rd March to 31st October on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays from 12pm to 5.30pm. The gardens at East Ruston Old Vicarage are one of the most exciting surprises in the county, who would expect to find a verdant, sheltered garden in the prairie landscape that is north east Norfolk? Enter the garden and you are worlds away from the local landscape for here there are many gardens within the whole including a new Walled Garden, Rose Garden, Woodland Garden, Mediterranean Garden and a stunning Desert inspired by the landscape of Arizona. These areas are connected by magical avenues and areas of informal planting with some places allowed to be wildlife friendly which includes a stunning Corn Field that contains the corn field weeds of yesteryear and has been known to move visitors to tears.

What a truly wonderful place to visit, I took my 11-year-old son one Sunday morning in October the weather was beautiful and the gardens were absolutely amazing. Entry price is very reasonable and we spent a good two hours looking around the gardens plus having Tea and cake in the tea rooms. Could have taken 100 photographs whilst here as around every corner what’s the most amazing scene. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to return in the spring

An absolutely fantastic day out exploring the many faceted landscapes of these wonderful gardens. It is a work of art and well worth a visit. I would highly recommend for a day of tranquility and to reflect on all the beauty around.

What a find! A local couple recommended the garden to us when we were chatting to them in a restaurant
It was a really great steer. The gardens are wonderful, with so much to see and explore. There are water features with flames dsooting out of fountains, for instance
I am not a garden person but I really loved this place. Go to it with an open mind and enjoy!

These gardens are astounding. A living work of art. One scene opens to another and another. You could imaging a great story taking place here, episode upon episode. You'd hardly need to tax your imagination very greatly at all. The narrative will be whispered if you can but harken to it's telling. There is bold geometry, there are hidden hideaways, there are dramatic vistas that surprise, that thrill and are all abound.

The layout is a triumph. Very clever without being showy or trite at any time at all. I got the sense of the patchwork of an olden days rural landscape with change upon change unfolding with a change of air and sounds teasing and pleasing the senses most generously. I also got the sense of how the gardens of great houses could have actually been. The work of driven creative imaginations, vision, brought into being, come to life.

The art and furnishings are all of a rare splendid aesthetic style - curated impeccably. The visitor is kindly treated to luxurious quality, the choice of good eyes. Nothing naff has made it here. It's wow wow wow in every little corner. There are so many places to rest a while, to contemplate, to arrive at otherwise lost conclusions.

The Tearooms and other structures including all hard landscaping are a triumph. Very well appointed, great buildings sitting comfortably in their situation as though they have been there forever, part of the whole, timeless but in no way pretentious. The fare very fair in generosity, price and quality, no stale cake here. Refreshing tea in good pot too. And the stuff - a pat on the back for all the sweet folk I met and spoke with. Magical folk of a magical land. Yup.

The only caveat I would point towards is the website and guide do not show how outstanding these gardens are today. The quality of the planting, the project has matured from the gangly youth portrayed to a hansom beauty who will steal your heart away I am sure. Plant upon plant that I have never seen before, so healthy too and so appropriately placed.

Thank you.

There is drone film footage if you click on Home on the website which shows what an amazing garden this is. Experienced first hand it is even better. There was little evidence of the recent dry weather with masses of flowers and spectacular planting, particularly near the house. The garden has "rooms", each with a different theme, nearer the house with more open areas further away, for the more energetic. I use a walking aid and managed well on the small sized shingle paths although some areas with a few steps were a no-go. The guide book is very useful and informative. The cafe is good, the staff helpful and, although the cakes looked limited, they were delicious. If you like chocolate cakes, try the Belgian chocolate gateau; one of the best I've tasted. Altogether a good afternoon out.

visit any time of the year and there is so much to enjoy. The garden is simply one of the best. The plants are fantastic. There is a good plant sales area and the cakes are so delicious with a selection. A must to see whilst in this part of Norfolk. Plantsman's heaven.

This is 32 acres of many gardens. Despite the fact the day we visited it was nearly 40 degrees the gardens still looked lovely . I would like to visit again in a different season and see it when we have had some rain . However it was still packed with unusual plants. It is a garden that has evolved over many years with a great deal of love and attention . There is a cafe with light lunches and cakes and plants for sale.

We debated whether to visit as the ticket price is hefty, and had another debate afterwards as to whether it had been 'value for money', Just about. Good points are the hard landscaping which is

I’ve been here 3 times before, and plan to go again in a couple of weeks.

We really enjoy it. I’d say the guide book is a must as I’m sure I’d still get lost without it. We always buy a few plants to squeeze into the car to bring home. 😂

Very nice way to spend a few hours. The small restaurant is great to pop in for a drink and also has a nice selection of snacks, but we took a picnic the last time we went.

We usually combine the visit with a walk on Happisburgh beach which is also lovely and has a great lighthouse.

Had a lovely time walking through all the individual gardens, all were delightful. Plants for sale were in good condition and the cafe was very nice with plenty of seats both inside and out.
