Neighbourhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

Great jazz club, but beware of the 'bouncers'. They are arrogant, big-headed and *bullies*. They are also big show-offs with their dancing! In fact they ruined my birthday evening in the upstairs room by accusing me of something I didn't do. Doubt I'll ever go back because of them which is a shame really - they spoil what would otherwise be a good night. Management: maybe time to sack the bullies?

My poor wife gets dragged to jazz houses when we travel. I love it and she is a trooper. We had the good fortune to bein London when the great Terence Blanchard was appearing at Ronnie Scott's. My wife loved the show as much as I did. Versus other jazz houses, it was a comfortable main room with pretty good sightlines (a couple pillars) and great sound. The staff was great. Drink and food prices are inflated because that's where any chance of a profit for the venue come from - you don't have a jazz house to get rich! I can't wait for my next trip to London so I can visit here again.

Good music, but the price is not very affordable. Sound quality is good. Often a queue to get in, like today. Perhaps a good way to secure your place other than queuing

Bit of a mixed review having visited here with friends for the 6pm performance on a Saturday night. Their was a bit of a wait in the queue outside on arrival and once Members were first ushered in we soon followed and were shown to our table. The venue is well laid out and although your all "squeezed in" every table has a good view of the stage and it had a great atmosphere. Our server Cicle (apologies if not spelt correctly) was fantastic and quickly took our drinks and food order. The cocktails were tasty and although around £16 each it was a nice treat whilst the band stuck up and we waited for our food. We didnt expect the food to be as good as it was, thinking this may be treated as a second rate afterthought, but the burgers we mostly had were good and we were all impressed.
Unfortunately it was the performance and the pretentious nature of another guest which tarnished the evening for us. None of us are hard core Jazz fans, (despite visiting other Jazz venues) which could be the reason we were not transfixed, but we appreciate good music and just struggled to enjoy the performance. You are advised via a little table card to keep conversation to a minimum and low during the artist performance which we respected however another guest next to us insisted on repeatedly "hushing us" and aggressively slamming the aforementioned card on our table. The PA system was loud so how we could be heard above the performance is beyond me so I think "Karen" was maybe just having a moment.
With the pre-booked ticket price, food and drinks we paid almost £130 each which is pretty steep for a two hour show but acceptable given the venues place in Jazz history along with the good food and service we received.

Another trip to the incomparable Ronnie Scott's tonight, this time to see the very cool and highly accomplished Malcolm Strachan and his band for their album launch.
Ronnie's are the ultimate example of a highly organised service business. One feels welcomed, engaged, and professionally served by their friendly and efficient staff.
The food is good and fairly priced for the context.
Couple all that with excellent jazz and fascinating friends ( and wine, don't forget the wine!) And you have a great evening.
Malcolm Strachan is very, very talented, look him up and seek out his music folks.

I have no words to say how I loved my night yesterday at Ronnie's. First I have to thank the doorman, he was very polite and helpful. Second for our lovely waitress, a blond girl from Cologne, Germany, she was always smiling and being present. The band Soul Family did a spectacular performance, the band also invited a guy to sing two songs, and this guy is a very talented singer, what a spectacular show. I would love to know his name to follow him on the social media. I definitely gonna recommend the Ronnies to all my friends.

My husband had wanted to go to Ronnie Scott’s for years , and we eventually made it ., with our grown up children and my son girlfriend. It was an amazing night , we had a wonderful table , plenty big enough for us to enjoy eating our dinner , which was very good . Our waiter looked after us very well . The Ronnie Scott’s band were amazing and it was such a memorable night . We all enjoyed it .

We went upstairs to the bar and club - great music and reasonable priced drinks that go on to the early hours a must for any London visit

I absolutely loved my evening in this iconic venue seeing Incognito - my favourite band. It was my first visit and I thought the atmosphere and vibe was exactly what I'd expect from a London jazz club. I would have given five stars but the receptionist was very snotty with us when two of us who had got chatting in the queue asked to sit together. Also my cod main course was quite dry and the potatoes not edible unfortunately. But having said that this didn't spoil the experience and the waiting team were fabulous. I can't wait to come back!

first time last Friday upstairs for a cuba night and really enjoyed it. yes it is a small space and even if you pre purchase tks, if your not in when doors open - dont expect a seat. we managed to get one when a couple left. drinks are pricey and all include service charge. food looked fine.
band were great even if they came on an hour late but great music inbetween show. atmosphere v good with dancing and cocktails flying.
for a one off - deffo try it

Do you have to eat....
I'm thinking of taking my husband as a surprise birthday treat, 1st may, and it looks like the early "sitting" would be the better option.... food looks a bit overpriced (IMO) can you get snacks?

Well, as you might expect, Ronnies has had to close whilst this pandemic is with us so you may have to think again for your Birthday treat on May 1st.
That said, given that you can get a table closer to the band, the food is really good and, IMHO, I don't think it is overpriced given the venue and the experience. Go for it, when it opens again.

I'm planning to take my boyfriend for a surprise visit beginning of Jan for his birthday, unfortunately the act planned for the date is not one he would necessarily like. Can anyone tell me what 'Upstairs at Ronnie's' is like as an alternative? Thanks in advance

Apologies for the delayed response. Others have said to check the musicians out of YouTube before booking, which is good advice I'd endorse. Unless you know exactly what type of jazz your fiancee likes (and its a pretty broad church, musically), I'd be inclined to look for a solo female singer (like Dee Dee Bridgewater, Renee Marie among the Americans, or Ruby Turner, Claire Martin or Leanne Carol among the UK options) because they are great entertainers as well as wonderful performers. They also have great backing bands with them. Unless you're late birds or you don't have issues getting home very late, then I'd suggest booking the first house but make sure you're in the queue outside a bit ahead of the door opening time, becuase they allocate the seats on a first come, first serve basis. There are no formal tickets and no reserved seats. Buy Priority seats if you can, the experience is much more intense if you sit in that area of the club. If there's just the two of you and you're at the front of the queue, you might even get a front row table, which is fabulous. Have a great time!!
