A bustling friendly market
Oct 2021
This market is such a busy vibey place - flowing over with stalls of flowers and houseplants, plus a little street with numerous individual shops that you won't see anywhere else. So much to see and look at. Shops included Vintage clothes, antiques/bric a brac/, old LPs, coffee shops, pubs, jewellery. I had the best few hours here. And then what a choice from the market stalls with all those flowers and house plants. Loved it.

Great visit
Oct 2020
We had never been to the market before but a friend suggested a visit. What a great place it is with a fabulous selection of flowers and plants .We came a way with several. There are also some nice little cafes and specialist little shops along the road to browse in.

Overpriced but worth a visit
Jun 2021
A small market these days, and limited in choice. A lot of the stalls sold the same plants so not a great range. Good for large, well-established, indoor plants. But with that comes some hefty price tags. Going at the end of the day, about 30mins before closing time, is the opportunity to get some bargains on cut flowers.

There's a row of shops too, ranging from the expensively artistic to the cheap and cheerful everyday. Again, we found many of the shops to be over-priced. As a Londoner, I'm used to the cost of living here, but there is a 'tourist tax' applied by many places and that includes here. The shops that sell plant pots for example - you can get the same, or better, quality at places such as Asda and Ikea for half the price. So don't be tempted to 'buy buy buy' just because it's the flower market - it's not a 'market' in the traditional sense of 'bargains'. Enjoy it, take in the delightful atmosphere, but shop wisely.

Nice Stroll
Jul 2021
Columbia Road Flower Market is a lovely little market to visit. As it's only opened on a Sunday it always has that momentum. There appears to be less people than usual. As the stalls are now only on one side it's easier to walk without the hustle and bustle. If you like plants and flowers or fancy a beverage take a stroll.

The in place to be on a Sunday
Jul 2021
Another experience not to be missed on a Sunday.
Full of trendy millennial buying their weekly flowers and "must have indoor plants". Not the old Eastend market it used to be but try it anyway.
currently there is a one way system which limits numbers, so be prepared to queue to get access, but makes it covid safe and if you want a bargain visit 30 -60 mins before closing!
It's sad that the gentrification of this area has been limited to the areas visited by this new class of trend setters. Look behind the market to the left and right and you will unfortunately see a different story.

Excellent place to visit on a Sunday!
Jun 2021 • Friends
Great friendly security and a one way system in place, felt very covid safe. Bought some beautiful flowers, a candle, some pastries and some local Rhubarb fizzy juice. Locals are lovely as are the friendly flower sellers, nice buzz about the place and worth visiting

Always a great visit
Jun 2021
Great place to wander around (and to pick up plants and flowers at great prices). We always take people that come to visit us here - it's something a bit different than the standard London tourist stuff.

Underwhelming and overpriced
May 2021
After 13 years in London, decided to visit the market for the first price. First, it is very overpriced. Second, it is super small. Good if you live locally, would not recommend if you are visiting / if you live far.

Suddenly very expensive (bedding plants)
May 2021
I visited on 16 May and I was quite surprised that the bedding plants are now very expensive, in fact more than double the cost at supermarkets (Sainsburys).
Example. A 6 pack of Busy Lizzies at the market was £8. At a supermarket its £3.50 for the same quantity. Same for Petunias - they were £2 a plant at Columbia Road and you can get a pack of six plants for £3.50 at Sainsburys.

There is of course a difference - the Columbia Road traders grow their plants and are of UK origin. But when there is a price difference of over 100%, then Supermarkets are the place to go.

Other than bedding plants, there is a lot of variety - there was a large stall with dried flowers which had a lot of pretty items. The man who sells ferns was there, as was the orchid man with many orchids.

The vegetable plants were good value and there was a lot of variety.

At 8.30am it was busy but the absence of tourists/selfie takers made it pleasant and less crowded.

I'll still go again, but not for bedding plants though!
