Top ways to experience Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Shakespeare and his men performed at the Globe Theater. It was "theater in the round." Today's Globe is a reincarnation of Shakespeare's Globe. It's as close as we can get to the original theater of the Elizabethan Age. Today's Globe is a renowned theater, cultural center and center of excellence. It's in Southwark, on the south bank of the Thames..

While travelling to our pre-planned London Theatre Visit, we decided to include the Globe Theatre for our thespian teenage daughter, who had just performed Puck in her theatre company production. We thought it would be a very exciting experience and support her GCSE studies. I checked the prices on the website, which were affordable and we trekked across London from Euston to be told on arrival that the prices had increased to include an exhibition. When I questioned this and pointed out that the prices had not been updated on the website, I was informed that it was that or nothing, we couldn't do a tour on it's own. The increase was £24.00 for the three of us, which was dramatic and took the option out of our budget...a 47% increase on the adult tickets and a shocking 80% increase on the child ticket. Obviously this venue is aimed at tourists, not the young generation growing up in this country. To Kill a Mockingbird and Wicked didn't however disappoint!!!

We took a tour around the Globe, an Elizabethan era reconstruction of Shakespeare's theatre. Shakespeare and his men performed in a theatre like this. The original Globe was in Southwark, south of the Thames. It has other remnants of the era, such as Southwark Cathedral, where the Bard and his men probably worshipped. Shakespeare has no equal as a dramatist; he was also a good businessman.

We did the Bankside Walking Tour and really enjoyed it. We had thought we were doing the Globe tour and due to the mix up we were offered a refund but decided to do the walking tour. Make sure you check your booking as we didn't think the website was clear regarding Globe Tour vs Bankside Walking Tour.
Anyway, our tour guide Norma was excellent, very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and entertaining. The Bankside Tour is worthwhile in it's own right and highlights part of the area that you would not know otherwise.

We got inspired and booked tickets for Titus Andronicus. It was a group of female actors who made a remarkable and bloody performance in only candle light. They also managed to use the candles in very creative ways that we will not disclose. A very nice memory.

A fantastic Family Tour with Llyr, who was knowledgeable and funny. Plenty of interest and detail for young and old alike, so don't be put off by the suggested 'under 11' age range.

My friend and I took a guided tour yesterday 9/2/23 at 11am. I can't remember the guides name (dressed in black with a slight beard) but he was very good. Informative, friendly and clearly cares about Shakespeare's Globe. As a tour guide myself in London its always good to experience others tours and see their love of the subject shine through. Really nice time, both my friend and I felt it was worth every penny. Please pass these comments on to the gentleman.
We looked around the gift shop after, full of school kids wanting to buy stuff but you only accept card payments. No child has a credit card so lots of dissappointed kids who couldn't buy anything. You would make considerable money out of pocket money sales, you are missing a trick there guys. Just thought I'd mention it.

Hi there, we're planning a summer visit to London. We'd like to see the Globe theatre, but our English is not good enough to see a play. Is there a way to see the theatre on our own way, not to joint to a guided tour?

Hello
You have to book a guided tour. It is about 1 hour and you have time to walk around and take photographs on your own. The tours are given in English but you can ask them to explain anything you didn't understand. If you go on the website you can book a day and a time that you want to go. I hope that helps you.

I don't know because I sat in the Pitt area
Hello, your review is really useful. You said you had tickets to the side and they were 'restricted view' but you could see 95% of the stage. Please can you share your seat numbers with me as I'm looking to book tickets?
Many thanks

We weren't restricted view , seats A16 and A17 on the first upper seated level. I would imagine restricted would have you either up the sides where you wouldn't see the other side of the stage or behind the wooden roof supports. Not ideal but if nothing else available not awful.
I'm sure if you google Shakespeare globe seat views it would give you a better idea

Вначале декабря (с 8.12) спектакль Ричард III, а с 19.12 Christmas at the snow Globe. «Стоячие места» - 5 фунтов, в не сезон есть практически всегда.

Have standing tickets to see A Midsummer Night's Dream in a few weeks. On reflection we will be walking around London all day. Are shooting stick type seats allowed?

6 is too young for Shakespeare. Would suggest going somewhere else. They will be bored and a waste of time.
