Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

A bounty as boundless as the sea

Having seen a few performances in Stratford I thought it would be nice to take in a performance here and everything about it was amazing. The venue itself is so unique with it being open air and with standing on the ground level it really is special (british weather allowing).

But a venue is a small part, its all about the show, and what a show, a modern interpretation of Romeo and Juliet which was spellbinding from start to finish and highly recommended.

The only thing I would change is next time I visit is to take a little cushion as the seating is very unforgiving especially if you have back issues, but this couldn't detract from a great experience.

The Globe

We saw one of the last performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Globe for their summer season 2021. It was absolutely infused with energy and felt like such a fresh show. The actors looked like they really enjoyed performing too.

I would definitely recommend the groundlings tickets for £5. Be prepared to stand and for the British weather to mean the likelihood of rain but one of the best live experiences in London.

To See. A must to See. There is no question.

Have been wanting to look over the fence for years and now it has been done.
Ticket in hand, waiting in line, too early, browse the gift shop. Wife bought "Bill" a Shakespeare themed duck for the fish pond. Well I never.
Intro and explanation about the current Globe and its historical beginnings. Audience participation is required so come with revision notes. The guide spoke in almost play like sentences, with actions. Very entertaining as well as informative. Tour around the whole site with access all areas bar(d) the stage. Lots of phots and memories. Will not forget the descriptive terms used for the street dwellers of the time. Can almost smell them now. Brilliant tour, expertly delivered.

It's not bad except in bad weather

The Shakespeare Globe use to be my favourite theatre to go to but now I don't think I'm the target audience anymore.Over the past three years they've been reimagining a lot of the plays very badly and they don't make sense when they don't follow the books.I recently went to see the reimagined version of Romeo and Juliet and I felt like the play was aimed at children and it just reminded me of the 1996 film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in it.They even reimagined the As You Like It play but the acting was that bad I couldn't wait for it to finish and when the fans were clapping at the end of the play I thought I watched a complete different play to them.
Before 2019 I would of gave The Globe 4* but because I'm not their target audience anymore and that the acting in the plays is getting worse I only gave it a 3*
