The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.

The Courtauld Gallery is closed for renovation until 2021. Quite how the previous reviewer managed to enjoy his visit in January 2020 is beyond me! Must have got the wrong place.
However, I was a huge fan before it closed and can’t wait for it to reopen. It was incredible how many famous paintings you could see standing in one spot, and I’ve no doubt it will remain a must see. One of the few galleries charging admission and still worth every penny.

Delightful.

The Courtauld Gallery is a lively space within Somerset House, I was more interested in the architecture rather than the exhibits themselves. Well worth a visit just for that.

This is a must do if you’re in the local area and a fan of art. Not only is it one of the best areas in the whole of the U.K., it’s situated in one of the most impressive buildings I have, personally, ever seen.

Thoroughly recommended.

My favourite gallery in London
Oct 2018
A collection that is "just right" . Some great works and artists mixed into a diverse and somewhat quirky display. Ideal for quite short visits that inspire rather than exhaust. Some excellent and unusual special exhibits. I try to drop in whenever I am in London.

Masterpieces everywhere!

Courtauld Gallery is not as popular as other museum in London, but it doesn't mean it is not as good. Relatively small, the gallery offers a big impressionist exposition and has Van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet and other impressionists.A pleasure to visit every single time!
