- hoteljunkie99Emsworth, United Kingdom363 contributionsGood show point by poor soundWe went to see/hear Fascinating Aida at the Mayflower, anticipating a brilliant evening of songs and satire. Unfortunately the sound system did not seem to be up to scratch; the ladies sing many of their songs in close harmony, and you could not distinguish the words at all. Some people next to us left after the interval. What was going on?Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 November 2023
- Travel3875302 contributionsAmazing dancing and comedy. A true Panto. We went to see Snow White and the seven dwarfs panto at Mayflower and it was absolutely amazing…Christopher Biggins is sensational and Ashley Banjo and diversity were spellbinding. Making all the dance moves look seamless and singing too. The rest of the cast were all so good and you really felt like they were doing a special performance just for you and the children. All the children seemed to love it and the adults enjoyed the comedy. I would definitely go to a panto here again.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 December 2023
- Debbie7 contributionsBest pantomime ever! What can I say? After a disappointing pantomime last year, I absolutely loved this years. I go every year and this was by far the best pantomime. Diversity were amazing and gave the pantomime a more modern and upbeat performance. Ashley, Perri and Jordan were all so naturally funny and entertaining. Biggins was hilarious as always. I already booked for next year before Diversity were announced to perform, now I can’t wait!!!!! Congratulations everyone, you nailed it!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 30 December 2023

Plays, Panto every year, musicals etc. Thought it was about time we put pen to paper. It is one of the best venues to see shows etc, and I’m including London! Lovely theatre, decent bar with some good eateries close by. What else do you need.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 February 2024
- Steve-MarilynEast Sussex, United Kingdom180 contributionsLovely theatre and staffLovely theatre with very good views even from the rear circle. We saw Edward Scissorhands there (great show) and were very impressed from security checking bags, person who checked the tickets and showed us to the seated area and at the interval where the staff were very quick and polite. A really impressive experience and with parking (and main line railway station) so close to the theatre it was a very enjoyable day. Will definitely return again.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 March 2024
- Anna B1 contributionThe best show I've ever seenSaw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang last night (03/5/24) and everyone needs to see it!!! It was truly marvellous, the cast was incredible, the orchestra/band utter perfection and the lighting/staging was wonderful! I've seen many many productions of various shows in various theatres and yet last night I got to experience the best performance of my life, I cannot thank the people that made this happen enough. This show is unmissable and I cannot recommend it enough. I wish I could list all the cast, crew, and staff by name but then I'd have a very very long review but please know, if you are in any way a part of this show or theatre: You. Are. Fantastic.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 May 2024
- Lucy TIsle of Wight, United Kingdom1,526 contributionsLovely theatre and really enjoyed the showWe went to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which we enjoyed and it was amazing how the stage was used and how they made the car look like it was flying. The directions to our seat were not particularly clear and I was very disappointed that there weren’t any programmes available to buy on arrival to the theatre - online only at the time of booking tickets. It was also annoying when people kept getting up to go to the toilet during the performance as it was distracting and a fellow guest was rude to me.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 May 2024

Confectionery prices rather extortionate but thats the same everywhere.. A fabulous evening with the wonderful Miriam Margolyes to a full audience. Shame the prices for tickets is so expensive.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 July 2024
- Karen RLeesburg, Florida83 contributionsBeautiful TheaterWe were in South Hampton for a cruise and decided to see Rod Stewart Tribute. Made reservations on line and very easy. The theater pricing was very reasonable. Seating great and pretty good accommodations for disabled patrons. Has a nice little bar in the lower level. Sound was great. A lot of people were providing review of the shows, and not the actual Theater. The theater is wonderful place and built in 1928. Our show was great! It’s a nice evening! Go Enjoy! Good website to review shows.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 July 2024

Felt a bit disappointed by this production. The costumes appear to have been made on a low budget. Really looked forward to the iconic bell bottom over the shoe base trousers but they were not there. Joe’s performance was unremarkable and appeared to lack lustre or commitment to the character. The bus was really good as was the trio’s performance in Alice Springs which had been really creatively directed and performed.

The only tickets we could purchase for our show were way up in the gods, which can be tricky to access if youhave mobiity problems. The seats are also very close together, so if you are of above average height, this could be quite uncomfortable. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our outing to this grand building. PS the box office staff were super helpful when one of our number forgot her ticket, thank you!

I am writing to complain about the treatment myself and my family received yesterday (Saturday 28th 2023) at the 2pm performance of My Fair Lady.
I bought the tickets for my mother's and daughter's birthday and was refused entry on the basis that I had my 4 month old baby with me in a sling.
Firstly, I felt the person who checked our tickets was quite rude in telling me I would likely not be allowed in. She spoke to me in a condescending tone, and didn't show any compassion, nor apologise for the inconvenience.
I understand she was upholding the rules but she didn't need to do this in an irritated manner. Having worked in customer service myself, I am aware how awkward it is to tell someone they are not allowed to do something but it is possible to do this in a polite and pleasant way which was not in evidence here (especially as I was not being argumentative - I was a mixture of confused and disappointed). The theatre manager was polite so I give him his due there.
My baby has been to 3 different theatre performances in her short life already with no issues. However, if I had been told that I'd need to leave if she started crying I would have accepted and understood those conditions of us being admitted to the show. In my opinion, she wouldn't have - before babies start moving on their own all they need is cuddles and milk which she would have had. I feel that this would have been an acceptable compromise.
Secondly, on your website show pages I can see it is specifically stated no under 2s for the Sponge Bob show but only states recommend for over 8s on My Fair Lady show page (screenshots attached).
The theatre manager stated it was theatre policy not to allow babies in but I cant see anything under booking information, or the FAQs, that states this. I can now see it was on the tickets but I did not have this information prior to booking and when they are sent online and you believe you only need to show the barcode it doesn't make details like this stand out. Other theatres in the local area do not have these rules so its not something I thought to check. I would not have booked the tickets if I was aware of this policy.
I am aware I cannot change the theatre rules but I do think this is a discriminatory policy to mums of young babies, and especially mums who are breastfeeding (a characteristic that is protected under the Equality Act). It's not a viable option for me to leave my baby with anyone else for that amount of time yet. I also think that it's somewhat nonsensical given that I wouldn't take my 2 year old to any theatre performance, or even the cinema yet, as they would be so much more disruptive than any baby under 6 months ever could be.
As it stands my eldest daughter was so upset, she and my mum needed to leave at the interval. It was very disappointing that a family event of 3 generations celebrating their birthdays ended in a trip to a coffee shop and not the theatre.

Mamma Mia tour Saturday 15th. We were in the rear circle. Cramped seats, so high up you cannot see much and for most of the performance you could hardly hear the songs or dialogue. Strangely enough though the encore was so loud so clearly no issue with the sound system. At times i could even hear. My mum asked for a hearing loop which lasted 10 minutes before the battery died. With storm Dennis everyone had wet coats but the cloak room was closed. Hardly any seats in the bar and even standing room was difficult. A really poor and disappointing experience.

I would use to say that the Mayflower was a great theatre however not so much anymore.
I had tickets for a show I can no longer attend due to strikes and their is no other form of transport to get their nor make the any other showings during the week. I asked them to exchange for another show or a credit note but refused because of their NO REFUND POLICY.
I understand but this is not like we did this on purpose and it totally out of our control. The customer service are completely unhelpful and refuse to flexible in any way. Meaning my friend and I not only miss out on a show we were really looking forward to seeing but loose money at an economic time when people can afford to just loose money like that. It's too short notice to get someone else to purchase them.
This is the first time I have ever had to ask this theatre to exchange tickets and never thought they would be so unhelpful when other theatres are so helpful and understanding when I have been in a similar situation.
I am hugely disappointed as I regularly went to the theatre and was a supporter. Now I will rethink purchasing any tickets in future and so will my family and friends.
I recommend you think before buying tickets at the theatre especially in a time of strikes as you may not be able to see your favourite show leaving you disappointed and out of pocket.

One of the best shows I've ever seen all of the actors and actresses were brilliant. Some scenes were funny and others made me jump in my seat. Can highly recommend if anybody is dithering about going. Just go💖💖

Mayflower Theatre – very disappointing.
There is a SINGLE disabled parking slot outside the theatre. If a driver delivers a disabled person to the theatre and leaves to park the car some distance away in the Multi Story Car Park, there are no seats in the foyer for the disabled person so a 10 -15 minute stand is the norm. Similarly, at the end of performance the driver has to recover the car leaving the disabled passenger to stand for 20-30 minutes awaiting their car.
Most of the disabled slots in the MCP have been made over to e charging vehicles, I think 6 slots are for the disabled. Drivers returning to the MCP to collect cars will find many of the doors at the MCP locked!
The seats in the Dress Circle (and maybe others) are very very cramped, the pitch in particular being very small.
Finding the toilet is not a problem – just follow your nose! They are disgusting.
£50 per seat for a touring 42nd Street production is not cheap; I wonder what entitles the theatre to its Charity status?

Laura Pick as Elphaba and Sarah O'Connor as Glinda were awesome. Laura almost had a standing ovation after her first solo song. I'm no expert, but wow. A massive cheer from the audience when her solo scene ended. I think she paused for a while to take that it in. Well deserved. It all went downhill for me from there. I did struggle to hear the words being sung. It sounded good, but I didn't know what was being said. Unfortunately, the interval couldn't have come any faster as my wife's and my own backside decided to go to sleep, and our legs were aching so bad I nearly walked out. I'm 6'2, and these seats are not designed to be comfy. At £79.50 per ticket, I'd expect to have more room than that and be comfortable. Very bad. The Theatre Royal Plymouth has shows way less than that price and is far more comfortable, but for some reason, Wicked doesn't come on tour down here, as do many other high profile shows. I asked an attendant what time the show finished, and she said approx 22:15. It was an hour after the interval ended, so after pacing around to get some life back in our butts & legs, we decided to see the show through. Trust me, it was a close call. To be honest, people were raving about this show, and I really wanted to see it. But I have to say, if we decided not to do the second half, I'd not have missed much. But then we paid £238.50 for 3 seats, so I wanted my monies worth. Oh, it's worth mentioning my daughter was meant to be with us, but her netball team organised a weekend away, and it clashed. This theatre would not refund me the seat months in advance. Very poor. The doors really didn't open early enough. People were turning up thinking they could get something to drink and rest before the show, but it was very busy at the bars because everyone only had 1 hour. Doors opened at 18:30 despite showing up on Google maps saying it was ooen earlier. Anyway, to sum up my review, I've given it a 3 because the cast didn't deserve it any lower. They performed brilliantly, especially Laura, but the seating, sound and no refund ruined the show for me.

I'm usually the one tagging along to watch the ballet. Whilst I usually enjoy the sense of occasion the Mayflower theatre brings to a production as well as the music, I wouldn't say I was a ballet aficionado. However, Merlin by the Northen ballet is a different kettle of fish. Apparently the director has also done West End shows, which is evident from the scenery and special effects. Puppetry also plays a an integral and seemless part to the story telling. There isn't a moment when you're not glued to the performance, the cast do a magnificent job of story telling through music and dance. I noticed on google that a ballet purist reviewer in The Guardian only gave it three starts! Nonsense! This should be a sell out and could run and run. Not just my opinion either, my ballet oficianado was captivated too.

It was lovely to return to the Mayflower and ‘A Beautiful Noise’ was their first musical show since reopening. Our seats in the circle were booked some time ago and we’re well spaced from others to allow for social distancing. Your entrance door was determined by your seating location. Codes were scanned and temperatures taken. The bar was open and purchased drinks were consumed in your seats. The show was very good and thoroughly enjoyed, with Fisher Stevens and his band helping us appreciate the music of Neil Diamond. At the end you wait in your seat to be directed out. The whole evening was most enjoyable and the theatre and its friendly staff had worked hard to follow current regulations. We look forward to our next visit in the autumn.

Hi I'm looking for seat advice. I'm booking for 2 adults and 2 youngish children. I'm deliberating between middle stalls or front dress circle. Or possible side seats in stalls or circle boxes (although these are listed as restricted view and seem to be top price!) Any advice? I don't mind paying top price but would like a decent view!
Written 29 February 2020
I always go for the dress circle, particularly the front row if still available. I am not tall and with the front row I get an unobstructed view; even right at the end seats in the front row, the view is unobstructed. I hate it when people in the front rows stand up to dance or whatever and I am forced to stand up too to get any sort of view. This tends to happen more in the stalls than the circle in my experience.
